This full day is a perfect introduction to the sights stories and secrets of our capital city, combined with a visit to the mysterious 15th century Rosslyn Chapel, made famous by Dan Browns popular novel ” The Da Vinci Code”
Tour Highlights
Rosslyn Chapel
Edinburgh’s Royal Mile
Palace of Holyrood
The village of Roslin where the chapel is located lies just seven miles south of Edinburgh, so we shall drive there first, before returning to the city around lunchtime.
During your visit to Rosslyn, you will have the chance to;- explore the excellent interactive visitor centre with wonderful views over the glen; examine the thousands of ancient carvings that adorn the chapel walls, ceilings and pillars; uncover the myths and legends of the Knights Templer and the ‘holy grail’ and visit the mostly ruins of Rosslyn Castle.
Returning to Edinburgh, your friendly and knowledgeable driver/guide will help you discover the many highlights of this fascinating city, including historic landmarks, cobbled streets, stunning vistas and a captivating and colourful history. Much of the city is best discovered on foot, so you will have some free time during your tour to explore the royal mile before meeting up with your guide in the afternoon.
Edinburgh highlights include;- the impressive medieval castle, which dominates the skyline; the the historic Royal Mile; the striking St. Giles Cathedral, sometimes regarded as the ” Mother Church of Presbyterianism” the magnificent 16th century Palace of Holyrood, the official residence of Royal Monarchs, including Mary Queen of Scots; the newly constructed Scottish Parliament building; magnificent panoramic vistas of Edinburgh’s old town from Arthur’s Seat and The Parthenon one of the most striking monuments in Edinburgh located on Carlton Hill.
My name is Ricky Henderson, a proud native Scot, born and bred in the west end of Glasgow. When I set up About Scotland Tours in 2010, it was with the sole purpose of providing our guests with a more flexible, relaxed and fun experience. We do not stick to rigid timetables like large coach tours, which gives our guests more time to explore Scotland’s historic castles, ancient neolithic sights and wee hidden gems.
For as long as I can remember ( around 30 years or so ) I have had a real passion for my country Scotland, learning our diverse cultures, ancient history and exploring the natural beauty of our spectacular landscapes and rugged mountain glens. I want to share it with you and introduce you to the very best of Scotland, you wouldn’t get to see with rigid bus tours. Read More...
