Day 1 : Delhi - Jodhpur : (Overnight Train - Royal Rajasthan on Wheels)
Report at Safdarjung railway station at 1700hrs. to Check-in the luxury train - Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for an overnight train journey to Jodhpur.
During this luxurious train journey you will experience the royalty of Maharajas of Rajasthan along with visit of spectacular forts and palaces, erotic temples of Khajuraho and Ghats of Varanasi. Royal Rajasthan on Wheels is an exquisite royal experience which will remain in your memories forever.
At 2100 hrs, the train will depart from Delhi for an unforgettable journey to the land of Maharajas - Rajasthan. This will be an overnight journey to our first destination Jodhpur.
Jodhpur - This city is situated at the edge of the Thar Desert. It is the second largest city in Rajasthan & once was the capital of the Princely State of Marwar. It was founded in the year 1459 AD by Rao Jodha, chief of the Rathore clan of Rajputs & its landscape is dominated by the massive Mehrangarh Fort. The graceful palaces, forts & temples strewn throughout the city bring alive the historic grandeur to the city, while the exquisite handicrafts, folk dances, music & the brightly attired people lend it a romantic aura.

Arrive Jodhpur in the morning and after breakfast on board we take a tour of Jodhpur do the following :
Visit the Mehrangarh Fort (Majestic Fort) - This fort is one of the most impressive & formidable structures anywhere in India. Built by Rao Jodha, this 5km long Fort is on a 125m high hill & has some magnificent palaces with marvelously carved panels latticed window. The Fort Museum houses an exquisite collection of palanquins, Howdahs (Elephant Saddles), royal cradles, miniatures paintings, musical instruments, costumes & furniture.
Visit Jaswant Thada - It is a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble built in the year 1899 AD in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Within the main cenotaph are the portraits of various Jodhpur rulers. It is an architectural landmark of Jodhpur.

Visit the Umaid Bhawan Palace - Umaid Bhawan Palace, located at Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, is one of the world's largest private residences. A part of the palace is managed by Taj Hotels. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owners of the palace, this monument has 347 rooms and serves as the principal residence of the erstwhile Jodhpur royal family.
Umaid Bhawan Palace was called Chittar Palace during its construction due to its location on Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur. Ground for the foundations of the building was broken on 18 November 1929 by Maharaja Umaid Singh and the construction work was completed in 1943.

Udaipur - Udaipur is referred to as the "Venice of the East", the "Most Romantic City of India" and the"Kashmir of Rajasthan" (a reference to Dal Lake) and not without reason. Tourists flock to this enchanting old & modern town in the heart of the Aravalli Mountains, which offers three interconnected lakes within the town - the Fateh Sagar Lake, the Lake Pichhola and the smaller Swaroop Sagar Lake; along with forts, palaces, temples, gardens, mountains and narrow lanes lines withdrawn with stalls, relives the reminisces of a heroic past, valor and chivalry.
The capital of the former princly state of Mewar is a beautiful city in Rajasthan, famous for its lakes and palaces. A current tourist favorite. it was a backdrop for numerous movies including the James Bond flick "Octopussy".

On Arrival, we take a tour of Udaipur and do the following :
Visit City Palace - Standing on the east bank of Lake Pichola is a massive series of palaces built at different times from 1559. The balconies of the palace provide panoramic views of the "Jag Niwas" (the Lake Palace Hotel). They also have great views of Jag Mandir on one side and the city of Udaipur on the other. Its main entrance is through the triple-arched gate - the Tripolia, built in 1725. The way now leads to a series of courtyards, overlapping parations, terraces, corridors and gardens. There is a Suraj Gokhda, where the maharanas of Mewar presented themselves in the times of trouble to the people to restore confidence. The Mor-chowk (Peacock courtyard), gets its name from the mosaics in glass decorating its walls. The chini chitrashala is noteworthy while a series of wall paintings of Krishna are on display in Bhim Vilas.
Visit Saheliyon-ki-Bari - Sahelion ki Bari was laid for a group of forty-eight young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. The gardens set below the embankment of the Fateh Sagar Lake have lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant-shaped fountains. These fountains are fed by the water of the lake gushing through ducts made for the purpose.
Boat ride on lake Pichola - Lake Pichola is situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village. It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city. The lakes around Udaipur were primarily created by building dams to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the city and its neighborhood.
Later in the afternoon Board the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels again. The Train Journey will take you to Chittorgarh.
Chittorgarh - Chittorgarh lies on the Berach River, a tributary of the Banas, and is the administrative headquarters of Chittorgharh District and a former capital of the Sisodia clans of Rajputs of Mewar.
Fiercely independent, the fort of Chittor was under siege thrice and each time they fought bravely and thrice Jauhar was committed by the ladies and children, first led by Rani Padmini, and later by Rani Karnavati. Chittorgarh is home to the Chittorgarh Fort the largest fort in India.
On arrival we will take a tour of Chittorgarh and do the following :
Visit the Chittorgarh Fort - The Chittorgarh Fort seated on a 180 metre hill, covers an expanse of 700 acres. It was constructed by the Mauryans in the 7th century AD. There is also a belief that it was constructed by Bhima of the Five Pandavas. This fort was the citadel of many great Rajput warriors such as Rana Kumbha, Maharana Pratap, Jaimal, Patta, etc.
Visit the Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory) - Vijay Stambha, is a huge nine storey tower which was built by Maharana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over the Muslim rulers of Malwa and Gujarat in 1440. The tower is 122 ft (37 m) high and stands on a 10 ft (3.0 m) high base. There are sculptures and carvings on the exterior walls of the tower. The tower is visible from any section of the town below. And for reaching tower top one have to climb 157 steps, one can take great view of the surroundings. The inside walls of the tower are carved with images of Gods, weapons, etc.
Visit the Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame) - Kirti Stambh is tower is dedicated to Adinatha, the first of the Jain Tirthankar. It was built by a merchant and is decorated with figures form the Jain pantheon.
Later drive back to the railway station and board the palace on wheels for the overnight train journey to Sawai Madhopur.
Sawai Madhopur - Sawai Madhopur is home to the Ranthambore National Park and the historic Ranthambore fortress, which lies within the national park. This area was ruled by Raja Hammir Dev (a Rajput king) of Chauhan lienage along with his Bargujar relatives. The area was destroyed by Allaudin Khiljee.
Sawai Madhopur was built as a planned city by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I of Jaipur (1750-1768), who named the township after himself.

Safari at Ranthambhore National Park - It is one of the biggest and most renowned national park in Northern India. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan. Being considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, today the Ranthambore National Park terrain is major wildlife tourist attraction spot that has pulled the attention of many wildlife photographers and lovers in this destination.
Ranthambore National park is spread over an area of 1,334 sq km along with its nearby sanctuaries like - the Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary.The park is majorly famous for its tigers and is one of the best locations in India to see the majestic predators in its natural habitat. The tigers can be easily spotted even during the day time busy at their ordinary quest - hunting and taking proper care of their young ones.
Ranthambore is also counted as the famous heritage site because of the pictorial ruins that dot the wildlife park. Certainly, a visit to Ranthambore National Park is a treat for every wildlife and nature lover. The time spend on watching tigers roaming around, verdant greenery, a gamut of other species of chirpy birds and animals.
Later in the afternoon Board the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels. The Train Journey will take you to Jaipur.
On arrival at Jaipur Railway station we take a tour of Jaipur and do the following.
Visit Amber Fort-Palace - This fort is situated in picturesque and rugged hills. It is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture constructed by Raja Man Singh and completed by Sawai Jai Singh I, The fort is made of red sand stone and white marble. The rugged forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise with a beautiful fusion of art and architecture. Amber is the classic and romantic fort- palace with a magnificent aura.
Visit the City Palace - This Palace is a perfect blend of Rajasthani & Mughal architecture. In the centre of the palace is a seven-storied building called Chandra Palace, with fine views over the gardens & the city.
Visit Jantar Mantar (Solar Observatory), an astronomical treasure house, with solar devices that give accurate predictions till date.
Visit Hawa Maha (Palace of Winds) - It is a five-storied structure of pink sandstone. It was built in the year 1799 so that veiled royal women could peer down the busy street market unseen by the world through its 593 stone Jharokas (Mini-windows).
After sightseeing board the train for an Overnight journey to Khajuraho.
Khajuraho - Khajuraho is a town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, located in Chhatarpur District. One of the most popular tourist destinations in India, Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculpture. The Khajuraho group of monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is considered to be one of the "seven wonders" of India.
The temples are grouped into three geographical divisions : western, eastern and southern.
The Khajuraho temples are made of sandstone. The builders didn't use mortar: the stones were put together with mortise and tenon joints and they were held in place by gravity. This form of construction requires very precise joints. The columns and architraves were built with megaliths that weighed up to 20 tons. These temples of Khajuraho have sculptures that look very realistic and are studied even today.

Varanasi - It is one of world's oldest living cities, is rightly called the religious capital of India. Also known as Banaras or Benaras, this holy city is located in the south eastern part of the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. It rests on the left bank of the holy river Ganga (Ganges), and is one of the seven sacred spots for Hindus. Every devout Hindu hopes to visit the city at least once in a lifetime, take a holy dip at the famous 'Ghats' of the Ganga, walk the pious Panchakosi road that bounds the city.
Day 6 : Varanasi - Agra : (Overnight Train - Royal Rajasthan on Wheels)

Visit the Ghats of Varanasi followed by Boat Cruise on River Ganges - This morning, witness dawn on the Ganges, a time when the Ghats along the riverbanks hum with activity, as Hindu devotees perform their ablutions in the river or offer prayers to the rising sun. A boat ride through this serene setting offers you the perfect panoramic vantage for this extraordinary experience.
Return back to the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for Breakfast.
Later Visit Sarnath - Sarnath is one of the major Buddhist sites in India. It is the ancient deer park where Gautama Buddha gave his first divine sermon of Dharma after attaining enlightenment.
Below are some interesting monuments to see at Sarnath :
Dhamekh Stupa - Constructed by king Ashoka in 249 BCE to commemorate his pilgrimage to the Deer Park. It is believed that the stupa marks the exact spot where the Buddha taught the five ascetics the Four Noble Truths, his first teaching after attaining enlightenment.
Chaukhandi Stupa - Constructed in the the 5th century, the stupa marks the spot where the Buddha met the five ascetics. The octagonal tower is of Islamic origin and a later addition.
Mulagandhakuti Vihara - The ruins of the temple where the Buddha spent his first rainy season.
Ashoka Pillar - Only the base remains.
Sri Digamber Jain Temple - A Temple near Dhamekh Stupa. Accessible by main road that runs along Dhamekh Stupa. Learn about Digambara monasticism, a branch of Jain Dharma.
After visiting Sarnath enjoy your lunch at hotel in Varanasi and return back to the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for rest and relaxation.
Visit the Ghats of Varanasi for Evening Aarti - Evening Aarti (Prayer) is performed by Seven Brahmans on the bank of River Goddess Ganges.

Agra - Agra is beautifully situated on the banks of river Yamuna. Visit the Taj Mahal (One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World & UNESCO World Heritage Site) - It is a symbol of eternal love, which stands on the banks of River Yamuna. It was built by the 5th Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan in the year 1631 in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was completed in 22 years.
Visit Agra Fort (UNESCO World Heritage Site)- This fort was taken over from the Lodhis by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. The Fort can be more accurately described as a walled palatial city. It was built from red sandstone, often inlaid with white marble & intricate decoration.
Later in the evening drive back to Agra railway station to board the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for train to Delhi.
Day 8 : Arrive Delhi
Arrive Delhi in the morning and after breakfast check-out from the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels.
