This extended mountaineering safari/tour adventure is for those with some extra time after their mountaineering safari. The extension will take you to Queen Elizabeth where can see the big five and later go for an exciting adventure (Canoeing in dug outs) on lake Bunyonyi. This option is possible either way mountaineering then canoeing or vice versa.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival at Entebbe

    Arriving at Entebbe airport in the afternoon, transfer to any booked hotel for an overnight.

  • Day 2 : Transfer to Kasese

    Transfer to Kasese. Check in at safari lodge.

  • Day 3 : Walking, Trekking and Hiking Starts

    Leave the hotel after breakfast and transfer to park headquarters at Nyakalengija. This is the starting point, where you will get your guides and porters, start your trekking and head for Nyabitaba hut (2652M) 5-6 hours.

  • Day 4 : John Matte (3414m)

    An early departure is necessary, because the hike involves trekking where the paths are sometimes slippery, so it’s vital to leave plenty of time.

  • Day 5 : Bujuku Hut (3962m)

    The hike takes up to 5 hours, crossing the Bujuku River, you will enter into the Lower Bigo Bog, using the board walk and through a steep climb (metallic ladders) you will reach the Bigo Hut.

  • Day 6 : Elena Base

    Four hours from Bujuku, make Elena your base because others might be scaling to Magherita peak (5109M). For those hiking to the peak, climbing skills are essential and you will need crampons, ice axe, harness and ropes. It is best to bring your own equipment even though we can hire it if necessary.

  • Day 7 : Hiking to the Peak

    Those scaling the Magherita will hike up to the peak (5019m) and the rest will descend to Kitandara hut where you will all spend the night.

  • Day 8 : Guy Yeoman (3450m)

    From Kitandara hut, descend to Geo Yeoman. This is the most difficult part of the circuit as it has a lot of rocks, endless bogs and steep and slippery paths.

  • Day 9 : Nyabitaba Hut (5 hours)

    From Guy Yeoman head for Nyabitaba hut where, if your knees are still okay, you can head for Nyakalengija. Otherwise take a night at Nyabitaba.

  • Day 10 : Nyabitaba to Nyakalengij

    Descend to the starting point and transfer to Queen Elizabeth for an afternoon boat cruise and an overnight at tented and safari lodges.

  • Day 11 : Queen Elizabeth Park

    Morning game drive and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.

  • Day 12 : Canoe Trekking

    Paddling starts at 10am after a hearty breakfast at Heart of Edirisa (meeting point). First stop is at Bushara Island where you will have a half hour walking safari in the eucalyptus and after refreshments you will visit a former leper’s colony (Bwama Island). Canoeing past the punishment island you will head to Sharp’s island for lunch then you will have some hours in the canoe which will lead you to the swimming area and on to your first destination. overnight safari lodge.

  • Day 13 : Habukomi Island

    After breakfast, cross to Kyevu for a day trekking through extensive swamps, a Pygmy community, Karembe hills and finally to the peak for your lunch break and an excellent view of the volcanoes. After lunch, descend for three hours to Bufundi peninsula where the canoes will transfer you to Habukomi Island for an overnight at a safari lodge.

  • Day 14 : Return from Canoeing

    Visit the pelican hideout after your breakfast then paddle to upside down island with a last stop at the Nature prime island for lunch before finally landing at the home bay by 3 p.m. Over night at safari lodge.

  • Day 15 : Lake Bunyonyi

    Day to relax at Lake Bunyonyi and overnight at safari lodge. FB

  • Day 16 : Back to Kampala

    Transfer to Kampala with a stopover at the equator for pictures and water experiment. Check in at any hotel of your choice in the late afternoon.
