Package Overview

Samburu National Reserve is not very well-known, but definitely worth a visit. It is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya. This means plenty of water, trees and shade to attract wildlife like elephant, lion, giraffe and zebra from the surrounding savannah plains. Leopards are also regularly spotted. The reserve is not particularly well-known and is therefore not too crowded - a huge plus in Kenya where so many reserves are often overflowing with tourists. It is often grouped together with the Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves as they lie so close together.

Aberdare National Park was created in 1950 to protect the forested slopes and moors of the Aberdare Mountains. The park has elephant, lion, rhino, black leopard and the beautiful but elusive bongo antelope. Both Treetops and The Ark are built above the ground beside floodlit waterholes with salt licks. Visitors must book in advance and cannot make their own way to the lodges in private vehicles. Instead check-in is at the Aberdare Country club for The Ark and the Outspan Hotel for Treetops, from where guests are bused to their respective lodges. Treetops is one of Kenya\\\'s most famous hotels - this is where British Princess Elizabeth was informed that she had become Queen in 1952 on news of her father\\\'s death.

Amboseli National Park is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including everything from Lions, Cheetah to Wildebeest to Giraffes to Baboons. Optional visit to a Masai village is available as this is the home of the Masai people. Here you learn about their tribal social systems, customs and the place of the Masai in today\\\'s Africa. The residents live in their Manhattan, or village, much as they have for centuries and a visit gives you the opportunity to see the interior of these mud-hut homes, spotless and unadorned, contrasted with the Masai themselves, bedecked with brilliantly colored beads and cloths.

The combined area of Tsavo East and West National Parks makes Tsavo one of the world\\\'s largest game sanctuaries, covering an area of more than 20,000 km2. Tsavo West has more than 2,000 km. of well-maintained murram roads that lead from one natural wonder to another. Chief among these ranks the marvel of Mzima Springs, replenished with twenty million liters of crystal-clear water a day from the underground streams of the nearby Chyulu Hills. The springs form a haven for many different animal species. Tiptoeing across the bottom, apparently weightless, we find the surprisingly light-footed but ponderous hippo. Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 : Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve

This morning we travel by road to Kenya's northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya's most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy's zebras and Beisa oryxes. We also enjoy Larsens Tented Camp or Samburu Intrepids Camp, our luxurious hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river.

Day 2 : Samburu Game Reserve

Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the river from our tent's veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, we're off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve's grasslands and acacia woodlands. And so the day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cozy camp.

Day 3 : Samburu - Aberdare

This morning we depart Samburu and proceed south to The Ark forest Lodge or Serena Mountain Lodge. Nestled in the foothills between Aberdare and Mount Kenya National Park, the lodge is famous for its high perches and balconies, overlooking a salt lick and waterhole. Boasting a remarkable record of wildlife sightings from their floodlit waterhole's and salt licks, here we will enjoy the finest in high-altitude game viewing.

Day 4 : Aberdare - Amboseli

This morning we depart our tree lodge and drive through the scenic Athi Plains and into the bush country of Amboseli National Park, home to the legendary Masai tribesmen and famous for huge herds of Elephant. A spectacular game run en-route is planned. Following a delicious lunch we set off for another spectacular 'Spice' game drive. Amboseli is big game country: Lion, Cheetah antelope, Zebra, Wildebeest, buffalo and giraffe. The afternoon game run is planned to introduce you to intense beauty and drama that fill each day here. Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro - can be seen from all the lodges that 'African Spice' uses.

Day 5 : Amboseli National Park

This morning we rise early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit, we set off for a 'Spice' game drive. Amboseli is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including everything from Wildebeest to Giraffes to Baboons. A visit to a Masai village is planned after breakfast. Midday finds us at our lodge for lunch and afternoon rest, followed by another 'Spice' game drive. Amboseli is home to the legendary Masai tribesmen. Masai warriors are famous and are proud nomadic tribe whose legendary prowess in battle and single-handed acts of bravery in fights with the wild animals are known across the world.

Day 6 : Amboseli National Park to Nairobi

Kilimanjaro, or relax on the clean white sandy beaches of Mombasa Island along the warm Indian Ocean, are some of the wonderful options available. Where required, we always deliver Air tickets to our customers’ offices. Our offices are equipped with state-of-the-art communication equipments to facilitate contacts with our customers and suppliers. This includes 24 hours internet connection and modern computers. HF radio communication systems are also installed to establish constant contact from vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to base stations, especially while in the bush. The Company has Increased the size, and quality, of our fleet to over 10 safari vehicles, and 4 saloon vehicles for personalized Airport transfers. We also hire them out to our esteemed customers only. This does away with the problem of sub-contracting vehicles, which inevitably compromises the quality of services. Ashford Travel Employ the best driver-guides and operations staff with expert knowledge in wildlife and other areas of tourist interest. The driver-guides are continually under training in client’s safety, wildlife, general knowledge and foreign languages: English, Japanese, German, and Spanish. Altogether the company has a total of 14 employees and 8 part time guides. Ashford Travel Maintain the Flying Doctor membership to cover our guests individually for instant rescue and medical evacuation to Nairobi. Client participation fee: USD 15 - USD 25 from all over Kenya and Northern Tanzania and USD 30 - USD 50 for Southern & Western Tanzania and Zanzibar.
