Day 1 : Kasol - Manikaran – Tosh village by jeep (2400m) – trek from Tosh village – Buddhaban (3020m) Duration: 4 hours
Those who have not slept with us for the night should meet us at the Kasol/Manikaran bus station. Drive to Barsheni after assembling here; the hike from Manikaran to Barsheni takes about an hour over rough mountain roads. The trek begins above Barsheni hamlet, with a commanding view of the Parvati valley dam, which is now under construction, and the Parvati and Tosh rivers' confluence. The hike begins with a slow ascent from Tosh village, following the roaring Tosh River through deep pine trees to Buddhaban, a large meadow with its own spring and several rocks.
Day 2 : Buddhaban – Sharam Thach (3505m) | 7 hours
The path ascends from Buddhaban to cross the treeline, making for a difficult day's hike. It then continues to Sharam Thach, passing through meadows and rhododendron clumps..
Day 3 : Sharam Thach – Shamshi Thach (3800m) | 5 hours
After a steep start, the path narrows to a narrow path through areas of snow. Throughout, the Tosh River continues on its raucous path. After a short descent, you'll arrive at Shamshi Thach, which is wonderfully situated in a little bowl at the valley's foot. The Tosh Glacier is to the north, and the enormous face of Kullu Makalu peak and the glacier that descends from it is to the east.
Day 4 : Exploratory day at Shamshi Thach Duration: 5 hours
You can go up to the snout of the Tosh Glacier or go up to Animal Pass (4560m) for the day (4300m).
Day 5 : Shamshi Thach – Kuta Thach (4100m) Duration: 4 hours
Walk to the snout of the Tosh Glacier and along the road that runs alongside it to Kuta Thach, a little meadow.
Day 6 : Kuta Thach – Sara Umga Pass (4700m) – Putiruni (3800m) | 8 hours
The day begins early because the pass must be traversed before noon. The hike to the pass from the camp is strenuous across snow and scree. The view from the summit of the pass is spectacular, with peaks in both the Lahaul and Tosh valleys, as well as other nearby by-valleys. The drop on the other side takes you to Putiruni's meadow.
Day 7 : Putiruni – Chota Dhara (3700m) | 6 hours
Another long day, although this time the ascent is more steady, with fewer ups and downs. The overnight camp will be in Chota Dhara on the Manali – Kaza road.
Day 8 : Chota Dhara – Manali by jeep | 8 hours
Drive from Chota Dara to Manali, where the trek comes to a close and participants can catch a bus to Delhi or Chandigarh.
