Package Overview

Kareri Lake and Lam Dal Trek (seven lakes trek) Package: Kareri Lake and Lam Dal Trek Season: Mid June. mid July and Mid September.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Drive from Dharamshala to Salli (55 kms/3 hrs )

  Morming drive to Salli, which is 55 kms from Dharamshala. Vehicle drop you at the hyrogeneration plant, which is the starting point of the trek.
  
  Salli to Chandrala (8250 fts, 6 km/2-3 hrs)
  Trek start with improvised bridge over small stream (small tributary river). Trek trail is all the way along the river till the Chandrela Dhaar. Trek till Chandrela is gradual uphill and considered as easy trekking.
  
  Overnight camping at Chandrala

• Day 2 : Chandrala to Chakrotu (11,550 fts, 9 km /4 – 6 hrs)

  Morning post breakfast, start hiking up to chakrotu. During the day trek you observe vegetation start decreasing as you move upwards. Today’s trek has some gradual up’s.

• Day 3 : Chakrotu to Lam Dal Via Balyani Jot (12 km / 5-6 hrs, 3500 mts)

  Start early in the day to cross Balyani pass at 13550 fts from sea level. Hiking up to Balyani jot is gradual up hill. After Balyani pass trek goes downhill till Lam Dal Lake.
  
  Lam Dal lake is considered as holly lake in the valley. Anyone can surprise to see such a big lake in the mountain terrains at this altitude. Circumference of the lake is 2.5 km and it take 2 hrs to complete round around. Local people visit the lake and have holly dip in the lake during Krishan Janmastmi. This lake is considered as the home of Shiva and Shakti. Camping around the lake is amazing. You can see many small caves around here and some of temporary stone settlements of local people. During their visit to Lam Dal they stay here. These caves are mostly used by Local shepherd called Gaddi. Pilgrims of both the valleys- Kangra and Chamba visit here every year for a Holly dip in the Holy lake.

• Day 4 : Lam Dal to Kareri lake by minkayani pass ((12 kms /5-6 hrs, 2950 mts)

  Morning post breakfast, start trek to Kareri Lake. Kareri Lake is passing through Minkayani pass which is the highest point of our trekking. Trekking uphill in mountain trek till Minkayani jot which is at the altitude of 14100 fts from sea level. Minkayani jot provide view of Kangra valley down and you can see Kareri Lake down deep in the valley. Downhill to Kareri Lake takes 2-3 hrs.
  
  Kareri lake is a fresh water lake at the altitude of 9750 fts from sea level. Kareri lake is also holy lake and dedicated to Shiva and Shakti. There is a temple of Shiva- Shakti which overlooks the lake. Source of water for the lake is melting snow in the mountain ranges of Dhauladhar. Kareri Lake is shallow and cleat, its bottom can be seen from uppar ends. Kareri Lake is the origin of Nyund stream, which localy known as Nyund khad. Nyund khad is suitable of trout farming and you can observe many farms here. Angling can be done in the downstream. Nearest habitants from the lake are at 12 km away in the villages of Nouli and Kareri village. Which are the starting points of the trek if you are on 1 Night 2 Days trek to Kareri Lake.
  
  Overnight and Camping at Kareri Lake

• Day 5 : Kareri Lake to Kareri village (12 kms / 4-5 hrs)

  Morning start trekking downhill to Kareri village. Trek is along with Nyund stream. Trek crossing stream many time over improvised bridges built by local villagers. Trek meets the road near Nouli village, but still not motor able. You need to walk in the raod for anoy=ther 2 kms to reach Kareri village.
  Kareri village to Macleodganj (20 kms/1-2 hrs)
  Drive from Kareri vallage to Macleodganj is 1-2 hrs. Vehicle leave you at your hotel.
