Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, and it is the most urbanised area you will see in the entire state. Shillong has a lot of leftover British colonial influence that is evident from the plentiful British architecture. Owing to the magnificent lakes all around the town, and the hills surrounding it, Shillong has often been called the Scotland of the East. Cherrapunji is famous for its rainfall, and it used to be the wettest place on Earth before the title was taken over by Mawsynram, which is less than 100 kilometres away from Cherrapunji. The Living Double-decker Root Bridge is a famous attraction in Cherrapunji, where trekking and hiking activities are offered for tourists.
If you want to take a look at Asia's cleanest village, don’t forget to visit Mawlynnong. Lying on the border separating India from Bangladesh, Mawlynnong is an amazingly clean village in Meghalaya where every street corner has a bamboo dustbin to ensure nature-friendly disposal of trash. The focal point of attraction of this village is the Sky Watch, which is a bamboo structure that offers sweeping views of the Bangladeshi plains from the top. Meghalaya has a history of rich craftsmanship, and wood-carving and artistic weaving are famous crafts here, especially in the Jaintia and Khasi districts.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Guwahati Railway Station/Airport - Kaziranga

  Pick up from Guwahati Railway Station/Airport and Drop to Kaziranga. Check in at the Hotel, freshen up and take a little rest. You can take leisure walks to the nearby areas of the Hotel. Back to hotel, Dinner and Overnight at Kaziranga.

• Day 2 : Kaziranga - Shillong

  In the morning, get ready for some adventure at the Kaziranga National Park. Explore the central regions of the park on an Elephant safari (By Own Cost). After Breakfast, you will explore the eastern range of Kaziranga National Park by jeep safari. Back to hotel and Check out and transfer to Shillong. On the way, drop by Barapani Lake, the biggest artificial lake in Meghalaya. Also known as the Umiam Lake, it is beautifully surrounded by Sylvan hills. Check into hotel and Dinner, Overnight at Shillong.

• Day 3 : Shillong - Mawlynnong - Dwaki - Shillong

  After breakfast proceed for a day excursion to Mawlynnong. This village is named as the cleanest village in Asia. Here, pay a visit to Jingmaham Living Root Bridge. Then, walk around the charming Mawlynnong Village and stop at the beautiful waterfalls. Next, proceed for a visit to Dawki, 34 km from Mawlynnong Village. The small border town in the Jaintia Hills is known for the picturesque Umngot River, a must-visit site in Meghalaya. Enjoy the scenic beauty and a boat ride in the crystal clear waters where you can feel like floating in the air as the water is so clear. Explore the nearby sights too. After sightseeing, leave for Shillong. Dinner and Overnight at Shillong.

• Day 4 : Shillong - Shillong Sightseeing - Cherrapunjee

  Check out after breakfast transfer to Cherrapunjee, It is at a distance of 60 km and has various waterfalls, limestone caves, striking root bridges and other natural sites to provide several activities. En route See Wards Lake, Lady Hydra Park, Catholics Church, Elephant waterfalls. Check into hotel and Dinner and Overnight at Cherrapunjee.
