Shimba - Tsavo - Taita Hills Tour

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Shimba

  Close to Mombasa, Shimba Hills National Park is a small hilly plateau situated at 33 km south from Mombasa (near Kwale Town) Animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, black and rufous elephant shrew, bushy tailed mongoose and other small mammals like fruit bat.
  The forest is an important bird area and is endowed with forest birdlife while the grasslands hold localized species such as red-necked-Spur fowl, Croaking Cisticola and Zanzibar Red Bishop.
  Depart after lunch. Have afternoon game drives in the reserve with dinner and overnight at the lodge.

• Day 2 : Tsavo

  Tsavo East National Park covers an area of about 12,000 square km, 40% of Kenya's parks' total area. This vast park lies in low semi arid country at the eastern edge of the inland plateau, north of the main Mombasa-Nairobi road and railway.
  The Park is home to most of the larger mammals, vast herds of dust –red elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, pods of hippo, crocodile, waterbucks, Lesser Kudu, Gerenuk and Hirola not forgetting the prolific bird life features 500 recorded species.
  Drive to Tsavo East for lunch. Then enjoy an Afternoon game drive before proceeding to the lodge to dinner and overnight.

• Day 3 : Taita Hills

  Mzima is one of Tsavo's most popular wildlife attractions owing to its resident populations of hippos and Nile crocodiles. Mzima's isolation makes both species are dependent on its waters: other sources are too distant for them to reach by overland travel.
  The hippos also sustain an entire food chain. They browse the surrounding savannah by night and return to Mzima's pools by day, where their dung fertilises the water. Fruiting trees such as date and raffia palms, waterberrys and figs grow beside the water, using their submerged roots to absorb nutrients.
  Their fruits are a source of food for vervet monkeys and a variety of birds.
  Visit Mzima Springs. Picnic lunch en route to Taita Hills. Afternoon game drive and overnight in your lodge.

• Day 4 : Mombasa

  Enjoy an early morning game drive before returning to Mombasa.
