This tour start from your ship docked in Civitavecchia port.
Tour is operated with a minivan driven by a fluent English speaking driving guide.
This tour includes:
The Popes summer residence at Castel Gandolfo, the lake nearby and the town of Nemi
This area is called the Roman Castles since these towns originated from the castles the Roman nobles built on the most suitable hill in their property, those castles were made into villas and the nobles spent their summers there in better climate than Rome the climate condition were ideal for cultivating grape vines and the area has always been known for producing wonderful white wines, the most famous is The Frascati Superior.
The area has beautiful hills and lakes and the little towns have a special quaint atmosphere.
Later we proceed driving on the beautiful “Via dei Laghi” (the road of the lakes) to Castel Gandolfo which is the most charming of the small towns in the area. Castel Gandolfo chosen from the 17th Century by the Popes as summer residence, this is still today the Pope favorite location to spend the hot summer months . The Papal Residence cannot be visited, but the Palace can be seen from the outside.
Inside the village of Castel Gandolfo there are shops that represent the local wineries where you can have a wine tasting or a light lunch with fresh and genuine food by local place or take an informal lunch with a very tasty, panino (round toast) stuffed of typical “Porchetta di Ariccia” drinking a glass of soda or Peroni beer, sitting on the lake’s shore.
Nemi the gem of the Castelli Romani:
In few minutes you are driven through the chestnuts wood up the hills to reach town of Nemi, where from terraces located in town you can have a breath taking view of the lake of Nemi.
Also this lovely little town (big village) is known for a unique product, famous all over the World : The “Fragoline di Nemi”, the small, delicious strawberries. Also off season you can sip a sweet liquor done with this delicious fruit.
The Shore excursion is of 9 hour from pick up to drop off at Ship side.

P.S. The price of day tour, shore excursion or transfer includes the cost of the private vehicle, driver, gas, road tolls, parking fees and taxes. It does not includes entrance fees to sites, private guides for museums or archaeological sites or walking tours, the cost of lunch, gratuity for your driver and for the private guide (when needed).
The tour sequence may be changed due to clients need, local problem or traffic problem, always covering the sights mentioned with tour description and time frame. Your driving guide assist you for the location to see , but he does not enter the sites with you.
