"The Ganges, also known as the Ganga, is one of the world's Major River, running for more than 2,500 kilometers from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges is considered the most sacred river in India. The legend is that the Goddess Ganga descended on Earth from heaven at Gangotri and so the Gangotri is considered as Source of Ganges. There is a temple at Gangotri dedicated to Mother Ganges. Thousands of pilgrims and trekker’s visit Gangotri and Source of Ganges every year. The physical source of The Ganges is now 19 km from Gangotri at Gaumukh. This trek follows the river upstream to Gaumukh and its higher meadow at Tapovan. This trip starts from the holy city of Rishikesh, known as & "Gateway to Himalayas". This exiting trek offers fantastic view of beautiful mountains like Shivling (6543m), Meru (6666m), and Bhagirathi group of mountains. Gangotri glacier is one of the largest glaciers in Indian Himalaya. There are many other notable peaks for climbing around Gangotri glacier like Choukhamba, Kedardome and Kharchakhund.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Rishikesh to Uttarkashi

  Early morning drive (165 km) to Uttarkashi (1150 m). Uttarkashi is the base of many trekkingand mountaineering expeditions in Gangotri valley. Also India's premier Mountaineering institute "Nehru Mountaineering Institute" is situated at Uttarkashi. In the afternoon proceedfor sightseeing tour of Uttarkashi including famous Vishwanath temple. Overnight stay at Hotel.

• Day 2 : Gangotri

  In the morning drive (90 km) to Gangotri (3048 m). Gangotri is the place where the GoddessGanga descended on earth from heaven. It’s also the road head for the trekking in Gangotrivalley. Visit the temple of Goddess Ganga and visiting many holy sages in there caves. Overnightstay in tourist lodge.

• Day 3 : Bhojwasa

  Trek 14 km: 5-6hrs to Bhojwasa (3600 m) following the river Bhagirathi and with divinemountain scenery. The trek is gradual ascent for most of the part. From Bhojwasa you can havemajestic view of Bhagirathi group of peaks. On arrival set-up camp for overnight stay.
• Day 4 : Tapovan

  Trek 10 km; 4-5hrs to Tapovan (4400 m) via Gaumukh - the source of Ganges. From Gaumukhclimb over to Gangotri glacier and cross it from right to left bank before climbing over to lateralmoraine to reach Tapovan. Tapovan is large high altitude meadow and base camp for climbingMt Shivling and Mt Meru. It’s famous for meditation amongst Sadhus and Yogis. Overnight stayin tented camp.

• Day 5 : Meru Glacier

  We enjoy this day relaxing and admiring the magical views of Himalayas or visit to Meru glacier(4600m) and Neela Tal (8km return: 4hrs). Stay in Tapovan.Meru glacier is located south side of Tapovan; we will climb in the beginning and followed byeasy walk on moraine. We can see traditional route on Mt. Shivling and famous north side ofMeru shark fin. Afternoon return to Tapovan.
• Day 6 : Cheerbasa

  We will trek down to Cheerbasa 16km; 6hrs. After crossing Gangotri glacier, it’s easy to followour steps back to Cheerbasa. Cheerbasa camp is next to roaring Bhagirathi River and grand viewof Manda peaks.

• Day 7 : Dharali

  After winding our camp, we will trek 9km; 2-3hrs to Gangotri. Drive 25km to Dharali. Stay inGuest House. Dharali is very beautiful village popular for apple orchards and amazing views

• Day 8 : Rishikesh

  Return 225km; 8-9 drive to Rishikesh via Uttarakashi.
