Day 1 : Arrival
You will be met at Johannesburg Airport and transferred 2.5-hours to the beautiful malaria-free Waterberg Mountains, a UNESCO biosphere renowned for its diversity of plant and bird life.
After checking into your simple SANPark rest camp, enjoy a game drive in Marakele National Park. Hope to see several species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and numerous other plains game before dinner. Your guide has an allowance to purchase provisions for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day that you are in the park.
Day 2 : Marakele National Park
Today enjoy game viewing in Marakele National Park in the heart of the majestic Waterberg Mountains, with all game drives taken in your guide's vehicle.
Situated in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa, contrasting mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys characterise the park. You can hope to see numerous different species of mammals and reptiles in this wildlife sanctuary including large game species such as elephant, rhino and big cats - as well as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, warthogs, baboons and a variety of antelope. There is also an amazing variety of bird life, including the largest colony of endangered Cape Vultures in the world (over 800 breeding pairs). Rare yellowwood and cedar trees, five metre high cycads and tree ferns are also found here.
After a beautiful African sunset, enjoy the balmy evening and pristine stars of the Milky Way.
Day 3 : Marakele
Today register for the Marakele marathon, half marathon or 10 km, with all funds raised going towards conservation in Marakele National Park.
You will need to collect your race number and familiarise yourself with the route.
Also enjoy thrilling morning and afternoon game drives in Marakele National Park.
Day 4 : Marakele
Today enjoy participating in the Marakele marathon, half marathon or 10 km run.
This tough but scenic race has an elevation gain of over 700 m, as you run up the side of a mountain and back down again, running through the national park. Enjoy the beautiful flora of the area and perhaps even spot some wildife, as you complete this unique mountain trail marathon.
Day 5 : Table Mountain
Transfer 2.5-hours to Johannesburg Airport for your onward flight.
You will be met at Cape Town Airport and transferred to your hotel in this beautiful city, within sight of Table Mountain.
Check in and relax in your magnificent surroundings.
Day 6 : Cape Town
Today is free for independent sightseeing in Cape Town.
We recommend you purchase a day pass onboard the convenient Hop-Off Bus, which stops at all Cape Town’s key sights and beaches. The "Red Route" bus stops at the Table Mountain base station, where you can buy a ticket to ascend by cable car and enjoy one of the world’s most famous views. Continue to Camps Bay beach and the many attractions of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
Day 7 : Hout Bay
Today we recommend an optional full day tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you may see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July/November).
Your tour travels through Hout Bay and along spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to the Cape Point peninsula, returning via Simons Town, Fish Hoek, Constantia and Kirstenbosch Gardens. This is a scenic tour of the whole Cape Peninsula, with the optional opportunity of visiting the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
Day 8 : Stellenbosch Winelands
Today we recommend an optional full day tour to the renowned Stellenbosch Winelands, travelling through the scenic Franschhoek Valley where a handful of French Huguenot refugees started South Africa’s now famous wine industry.
Explore the historic university town of Stellenbosch and several wine estates on this famous wine route, which stretched from Paarl through to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Enjoy a cellar tour and some wine tasting, before returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon.
Day 9 : Departure
Transfer to Cape Town Airport for your flight home.
