Chennai, formerly known as Madras dates back its origin to 1639 when British East India Company with Francis Day, a trader built a trading post named “Fort St. George”, near the village of Madraspatnam. Today, Chennai with a population of 5.5 million is the fourth largest city of India. Visit the 16th century old cathedral of St. Thomas Church who came to India in 52 AD. The remnants of St. Thomas were buried in this church. Visit Marina Beach for a mesmerizing walkway by the sea. Further, catch the site of National museum with sculptures from Pandava, Pallava and Chola time.

Kanchipuram, known as one of India’s seven sacred cities was once the capital of the Pallavas and the Cholas dynasty. They gifted the city with numerous temples and tanks. Known as the golden city of thousands temples, Kanchipuram was regarded as a great seat of attaining knowledge. Today, the city is also known for hand-woven silk fabrics.
Ekambareshwar Temple dedicated to lord Shiva, is one of the largest temples in Kanchipuram, built in the early 16th century during the days of the Vijayanagar Empire. Evening return to Madras.

Kapaleeshwarar Temple, dedicated to Shiva, today holds "the big chariot festival" in Mylapore. The wooden chariot, decked with colorful floral decorations has the bronze statues of Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati. They are preceded through the streets accompanied by thousand of Hindu devotees.

A once again visit to Mylapore to see the "Festival of 63 Saints". Numerous Hindu devotees carry the 63 pictures of saints, the statues of Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Nandi Bull and other gods through the streets in a long procession.

After breakfast drive to Tanjore. On the way, visit Chidambaram and Gangaikondacholaporam. Temples. Proceed to Tanjore.
In Tanjore visit Brihadisvara Temple, jewel of South India which was built in 9th century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Overnight at the hotel in Tanjore.
After breakfast drive to Trichy. Overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, set off for sightseeing visit to Srirangam, a beautiful island surrounded by river Cauvery and Kollidam. Proceed to Ranganathasvami Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is famous for its attractive sculpture and rich collection of temple jewellery. Finally visit to Jambukeshwara Temple dedicated to lord Shiva. The temple comprises five walls and seven Gopurams making it one of the largest temples of Tamil Nadu.
In the afternoon, visit Rock Fort, built on the 84 m high rock in the center of town. You can have panoramic view of the surroundings of the town from the fort.
Rest of the day is free to pursue independent activities.
After early breakfast in the morning, drive to Madurai via Swamimalai, the cultural capital of Tamilnadu. Swamimalai, shrine of Lord Murugan, is recognized for having school of iconography and craftsmen. They produce bronze inspired by Chola style by using the lost wax process. Upon arrival check-in to the hotel.
In the evening, visit Meenakshi temple to watch the night ceremony. The temple is alive with absorbing performance by musicians. At 21:30 hours, the image of Shiva is carried in a procession accompanied by musicians, temple singers and priests from the shrine. Enroute Shiva visits the other deities before entering Parvati's (Meenakshi) temple to sleep with her for the night. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Meenakshi temple is dedicated to lord Shiva in the form of Sundareswarar meaning beautiful God and goddess Parvati in the form of Meenakshi. Apart from being the most sought after tourist’s destination, the temple is also most sacred places for Hindu pilgrimage. Its nine "Gopuram"-Temple towers (23-30m) have wonderful stucco images of gods, goddesses and animals from the Hindu mythology.
Later, visit to Thirumalai Nayak Palace, a palace with Indo-Saracenic style built in 1636, with huge domes and 240 columns rising to 12 m, a beautiful garden and an attached museum. Afternoon free
Same day excursion to Ramesvaram.Ramesvaram is the place where Lord Rama had constructed a built to rescue his consort Sita, abducted by Ravana, the king of Lanka. The place is also known from the folklore that Rama had worshipped lord Shiva to get absolved from the sin of killing Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage which is known as the Varanasi the south. After sightseeing, drive back to Madurai.

After breakfast drive to Thekkadi the Periyar National Park through the cardamom country.
Periyar National Park, a well known wildlife sanctuary is located on the bank of artificial lake - Periyar. The park is abundant with dense forests and lush green grass the park is habitation of wildlife like elephants, great India tigers, lion tailed macaques, gaurs, deer, sambars. The park has 246 species of birds and 112 species of butterfly and the trees more than 100 years old.

After morning breakfast, drive to Kovalam via Trivandrum.
Trivandrum, now, called Thiruvanathpuram, has been the religious capital of Hinduism from time immemorial. Major attractions are: scenic backwaters and excellent beaches - the best known is Kovalam Beach.

Kanyakumari is the christened name after the virgin goddess Kanyakumari Amman. The main attraction of the place is the exuberant scenes of the sunsets, the sunrises especially on full moon days.
