Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha.
On day one of your safari, our experienced driver/ guide will collect you at the airport or city - depending on your mode of arrival - and take you to your accommodation in Arusha. You will be given a short briefing and answers to any additional questions you might have regarding your upcoming safari.
Day 2 : Arusha to Tarangire National Park.
You depart from Arusha after breakfast to drive to the famous Tarangire National Park. Here you have the opportunity for game viewing in the spectacular vistas of endless golden savannahs as you drive along the Tarangire River lined with Baobab trees. This is a well established game viewing spot, as a range of animals are visiting the river throughout the day. Tens of thousands of wildebeest and zebras move from the Masai Mara steppe in Kenya to the Tarangire River during their annual migration. You might also be able to see two rare species of animals, the greater kudu and the fringe eared oryx. Picnic lunches will be provided during the game drive.
Day 3 : Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, your drive will continue past the unique Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the famous Olduvai Gorge, also known as The Cradle of Mankind, since it is revealing its treasure of prehistoric life. This extremely important prehistoric site was first discovered by Louis and Mary Leakey and excavation exhibits from different periods are still on display in the Olduvai Gorge museum.
You will also visit the famous Masai bomas, where can meet the Masai people and discover their culture. As you enter the Serengeti National Park for your game drive, the most intriguing African landscape unfolds before your eyes and you experience an amazing variety of African wildlife in all its glory.
Day 4 : Serengeti National Park.
Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was recently proclaimed the 7th world wonder. The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some 200.000 zebra and 300.000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest's trek for fresh grazing areas.
The highlight of today's exploration will be another game drive in the Serengeti National Park, with its amazing scenery of golden savannahs, where you can observe large herds of animals such as wildebeests and zebras, tall and graceful giraffes, antelopes and gazelles and the powerful African elephant. Your day starts early with a sunrise game drive through the morning light and the endless savannahs, accompanied by the calls of colorful tropical birds. You will be searching for leopards and lions hunting for their daily meal and observe hippo families, returning to their watery homes. After the morning game drive, you return to your accommodation to enjoy a late breakfast and continue your explorations of the great Serengeti plains with a game drive through the wilderness for the rest of the day.
Day 5 : Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation.
Area Another early morning game drive allows you to spot the lean cheetahs and shy leopards, foraging hyenas and lions in the lush savannah of the Serengeti plains. Picnic lunches will be provided during the game drive. Thereafter, you depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Day 6 : Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Lake Eyasi.
After breakfast, you will proceed to drive down into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive. From the comfort of your open-top vehicle and descending down into the crater, you can enjoy amazing panoramic views and an abundance of wildlife, including the Big Five.
The crater's caldera offers more than 120 species of mammals and is graced in its centre with the saline Lake Magadi. There you can observe flamingos and pools with hippos, the endangered African black rhino as well as birds such as the secretary bird, the white stork, kori bustards, crowned cranes and ostriches. A landscape of sheer beauty with the major additional advantage that this picturesque park is also home to a population of predators, such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the elusive leopard. After the excitement of the day, you will have a picnic lunch in the park and thereafter make your way to Lake Eyasi.
Day 7 : Lake Eyasi to Lake Manyara National Park.
You will start the day before breakfast with a visit to the Hadzabe Tribe, ancient hunters and gatherers who will demonstrate to you their historic hunting skills. And these are not merely displayed here for tourism, but reveal their everyday life when hunting for animals to provide for their families. You will be asked to watch quietly and be as motionless as possible, as the Hadzabe will demonstrate how to attract animals through distinct motions, sometimes with the help of animal body parts, such as antelope horns. There are only about 2.000 Hadzabe tribesmen and women left in Tanzania today and they represent an ancient way of life that is true to nature.
Thereafter, you return to the lodge for a late breakfast and then head out to Lake Eyasi. Lake Eyasi is a shallow soda lake that during the dry season often disappears altogether. When the water levels are fairly high, it is an important destination for many animals and a seasonal stop for some of the most beautiful tropical bird species, including two species of flamingoes.
Large flocks of these colourful birds come to the lake shore every year for their breeding grounds. During the periods of high water levels, the lake's borders also attract many other animals, such as hippos. You will also take time to visit the Datooga Tribe, who are mostly farmers and cattle breeders. After the excitements of the day and a picnic lunch in the park your safari continues to Lake Manyara.
Day 8 : Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha.
In the morning, you proceed with a game drive at Lake Manyara National Park, which is a photographer's paradise, offering amazing game viewing opportunities against the backdrop of the marvellous vista of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, sparkling in the sun. Another highlight of your visit awaits you during this game drive and the opportunity to see the rare and unique tree climbing lions. Legends have been built around the tree-climbing lions in this area and spotting one of the cats is a very special experience indeed as there are only two places in the world where you can find tree climbing lions. Thereafter, drive back to Arusha.
