You will be met at Kilimanjaro Airport and transferred 1-hour to Arusha.
Check into your hotel in this warm and friendly town in the northern highlands, situated beneath the twin peaks of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro & formerly an administrative centre in German East Africa.
Day 2 : Tarangire National Park
This morning your guide will collect you from Arusha for your scenic 2.5-hour transfer to Tarangire National Park, travelling in a safari jeep (with pop-up roof for game viewing).
One of the least visited of Tanzania's northern game parks, this wonderful wildlife reserve is famous for its giant baobabs, huge herds of elephants and tree climbing lions. Check into your lodge and enjoy the amazing spectacle of an East African sunset.
Day 3 : Tarangire National Park
Today enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives in Tarangire National Park.
The dense bush and hilly terrain is dominated by the Tarangire River, which attracts large numbers of migrating animals during the dry months, especially between July and September. Tarangire retains an air of undiscovered Africa - particularly in the south of the park - and boasts huge numbers of elephants, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland.
Day 4 : Ngorongoro Crater
This morning we depart from Tarangire and travel 3.5-hours to the famous Ngorongoro Crater.
We travel across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara, which has a wide variety of wildlife including plains game, monkeys and the unique tree-climbing lion. Also flamingos and large pods of hippos that congregate where rivers run into the lake.
We continue to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Stretching across 8,300 sq km, the high altitude Ngorongoro Conservation Area boasts a dramatic variety of volcanic landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeology. Its grasslands, waterfalls and mountain forests are home to an abundance of animals and also to the Masai people, and has been declared a World Heritage site. Check into your lodge and enjoy the beauty of this area.
Day 5 : Ngorongoro Crater
Today enjoy a tour into the basin of the Ngorongoro Crater, including game viewing and a picnic lunch on the crater floor.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact caldera, forming a spectacular bowl of about 265 square kilometres with sides up to 2,000 feet (600m) deep. Although animals are free to move in and out of this contained environment, the rich volcanic soil, lush forests and spring lakes on the crater floor attract both grazers and predators all year round, with up to 30,000 animals living in the crater - including endangered rhino, lion, hyena and jackal on the open savanna and elephants and monkeys in the forests. You may also see flamingos on the lake.
On the way back to our lodge, we visit a Maasai Village to learn more about the culture and traditions of these colourful people.
Day 6 : Serengeti
oday we travel 3-hours from Ngorongoro to the great Serengeti, stopping along the way at Olduvai Gorge, where Louis and Mary Leakey famously discovered the remains of early man.
We continue to Serengeti National Park (meaning 'Endless Plains), a World Heritage site that hosts the largest overland wildlife migration in the world. Each October over 2 million wildebeest and accompanying wildlife travel over 500 miles, as they journey from the open plains of the Masai Mara and across the hills of the Serengeti to the southern plains. After calving in February, from April onwards the great migration starts once again as these millions of animals move northwards, crossing the treacherous Grumeti River in the western corridor in search of the sweet new grasses of the Mara. Check into your lodge in this magnificent wildlife area.
Day 7 : Serengeti National Park
Today is devoted to early morning and late afternoon game viewing in the great Serengeti National Park.
This vast conservation area, which is larger than Northern Ireland, lies between Lake Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasi in the south and the Great Rift Valley in the east. The landscape varies from open grass plains in the south, savanna with scatterred acacia trees in the centre, hilly wooded grasslands in the north and woodlands and clay pans in the west - with small rivers, lakes ands swamps scattered throughout.
With more than 70 large mammals and over 500 other animal species, including large prides of lions and great herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelle, outstanding game viewing is guaranteed on a scale only seen in East Africa. Bird watching is also outstanding.
