Day 1 : Bhalukpong
Bhalukpong is Situated at 213 metres above sea level, Bhalukpong is the entry point to Arunachal and is 213 kms from Guwahati. The place is famous for archaeological ruins of King Bhaluka who was the grandfather of King Bana of Mahabharata fame and an ancient ruler of the region. A historical fort of 10th-12th Century AD is situated in the foothills of the region and one can see the stone remains of the fort.
Some important remains of King Bahluk’s capital and his grandson Bana are preserved here. The Kameng River flows through Bhalukpong providing ample scope for adventure tourism. It is also a beautiful picnic spot.
The wide valley, deep evergreen forest, sparkling river, pure ambiance- all constitute the serenity of Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh. Bhalukpong offers an excellent opportunity for river rafting and angling in river Kameng along with bird watching, trekking and hiking.
Day 2 : Tipi
Tipi Orchidarium, a wonderful greenhouse is located around 5 km from Bhalukpong, is well known for housing amazing collection of about 500 species of Orchids. Thus this is an ideal place for scientists who nurture their techniques of Biotechnology in order to give birth to new orchid varieties. One can see the exotic Orchid collection in full bloom.
Day 3 : Sessa
It is 24 kms from Tipi on the way to Bomdila. There is a natural orchid sanctuary spread over 10 sq. km. More than 2600 orchids representing 80 species have been cultivated in natural surroundings.
Day 4 : Pakhui Wildlife And Tiger Reserve Sanctuary
Spread over an area of 826 Sq. Km and has the Kameng river in the west and Pakki river in the east, Pakhui Wild Life Sanctuary is situated in Bhalukpong. The deep green forest is a home for a treasure of several endangered species of the Bengal Tiger, the Great Pied Hornbill, white wined Wood Duck and a few endangered birds. There are a host of other birds, both resident and migratory. Among the other animals found in Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary are elephants, sambhar, gaurs, leopard, binturong, peacock pheasant, etc.
Day 5 : Bomdila
One can watch various snow clad mountain peaks from Bomdila including the Kangto and Gorichen Peaks which are the highest peak of the state.
Nestled in the high hills of the Eastern Himalayas and situated at an altitude of 8500 ft, the breath-taking beautiful Bomdila town is the headquarters of the West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh. Bomdila is a very popular destination for the tourists to get pampered themselves by the nature. Magnificent Himalayan paradise also enriched by number of Apple Orchards that spreads far and wide, Buddhist Monasteries and Hospitable People. It is also an ideal place for trekking and hiking, night camping .Ideal Location for Arunachal food tasting.
The market is small but packed with many local goods; especially the Craft Centre Most of these are intricately crafted with minute details and varied themes.at Bomdila turns out a range of superbly designed dragon carpets that are on sale. Also produced at the centre are traditional Thangka Wall Hangings, Paintings and Masks.
Day 6 : Bomdilla Monastery
A home to Buddhist Lamas and monks at Bomdila in the west Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, the Bomdila Gompa or Monastery is one of the most prominent centres of the Lamaistic faith of Mahayana Buddhism, established in the year 1965. The Monastery owes its inception to the 12th reincarnate of Tsona Gontse Rinpoche who got this Monastery built before his death in 1966. Day 7 : Dirang
Dirang is 42 kms from Bomdila & 4190 ft above sea level .Dirang is a Sub-divisional headquarters in the West Kameng District and well known for its Hot Water Spring and Apple Orchards apart from its mesmerizing natural beauty. It is also used as a base camp for trekking and bird watching at Mandla or Madla Phudong, which is situated at a distance about 28 km from Dirang. Dirang features unique flora & fauna, numerous medicinal plants have their habitat in this area. The place is famous for hot water springs where people take bath to cure skin ailments. Places worth visiting here are the apple and kiwi orchards, National Yak Research and Breeding Center at Nigmadung, Sheep Breeding Farm
Dirang a beautiful hill station comprises of Tribal Mahayana Monapas sharing their traditions and heritage which are similar to Western Bhutan. The Tourists are always free to squeeze the abundant beauty of nature. The high peaks and mountains of Dirang are irresistible for mountaineers and trekkers. They give maximum pleasure to the adventurous tourists.
Day 8 : Dirang Dzong or the locally known as “ JONG”
the fort Dirang Jong was built in 1831 represent the authority of the King / Chief and also an importa centre of Public Administration is an important historical monument for the Monpas of Dirang circle. It is at a strategically located hill top and comprises of an array of four storied fortified stone buildings in which the entire village could take refuge at the time of war. It is the only one of its kind in the entire area.
Sangti Valley, located at 7 km from Diragng is one of the seasonal homes of the majestic creature called the black-necked crane that flies across from China and perhaps Leh, right into its laps. Locally termed as tung tung ka uk by the people. According to locals, the black-necked cranes, migrate in the valley during November and December, feeding and breeding during the winter months and then revert back to their original homes along with their young ones during the months of April and May every year.
Day 9 : Sela Pass
It is 45 kms from Dirang on the way to Tawang. Sela Pass is the world’s second highest motorable pass at an altitude of 14000 ft. The serene crystal blue water natural lake and the surrounding landscape are truly pleasing to the eyes and senses. Sela is a high altitude mountain pass that acts as the gateway to Tawang. The pass rises at a height of 13,700 ft above sea level and is about 67 km away from the heart of Tawang town. Its stark and rugged terrain has hardly any vegetation and is covered with snow for most part of the year, offering a splendid view of the majestic Himalayas. Some yaks can be seen grazing in the sporadic bursts of greenery on the slopes here.
A few lamas can be seen walking to and from the villages and monasteries surrounding this area. The area around the pass has over a hundred big and small lakes of which the most accessible is the picturesque Sela Lake, located on top of the pass. Due to its height, the lake remains largely frozen for most part of the year. It is considered to be sacred by the tribes inhabiting this region and offers panoramic views of the breath-taking Himalayan landscape surrounding it. The beautiful Sela Pass gate, designed in the Buddhist colours of red, blue, green and gold stands majestically juxtaposed against the white peaks of the surrounding ranges.
Day 10 : Nurannang Water Falls
It is 12 kms from Sela Pass and is famous for cold water snow and rainbow trout fish hatchery where one can go fishing in the chilly waters. A hidden gem in Tawang, Nuranang Falls originates from Sela Pass and is a beautiful place to visit. It is located at the height of 6000 feet above sea level amid lush forests so that you can enjoy the beauty of nature.
Day 11 : Jaswant Garh
Located at a distance of 4 kms from Nuranang, Jaswant Garh is a memorial erected in the memory of Veer Jaswant Singh of the 4th Garhwal Rifles and a recipient of Mahavir Chakra (Posthumous) who alone stopped the Chinese Army for 72 hours during the 1962 aggression.
Day 12 : Tawang
Tawang at the height of 11,500 ft above the sea level, moored high up in the hills of the Eastern Himalayas is the original land of Monpa Tribes. Popularly known as “ The Hidden Paradise” or “ The Land of Dawn Lit”,
Bordered by Tibet in the North, Bhutan in the South West and Sela ranges separate West Kameng Dsitrict in the East, Tawang was under the governance of Tibetan Government till 1951 and during the Tibetan rule it was called Monyul. The mountainous terrain of Tawang comprises of the snow-capped Higher Himalayan ranges and sparsely populated plateaus and valleys, which are drained by the Tawangchu and Nyamyanchu rivers. Tawang is well connected to Tibet in the north by the Bum La and Tulung La passes.
The name Tawang derives from some bearings on surroundings. But people’s interpretation is that the name Tawang was given by Mera Lama in the 17th Century. It is believed that The fifth Dalai Lama, Mera Lama, set out in 1681 searching for a place to construct a monastery. One day after praying for guidance, he found his horse standing quietly on a hilltop and took it as a divine sign. Hence the name Tawang, which means chosen by the horse. The name ‘Tawang’ ,derived from the two words ‘Ta’ meaning horse and ‘Wang’ meaning blessing.
Day 13 : Tawang Monastery
which is an important seat of Mahayana Buddhism is located here. This world-famous monastery of the Gelukpa was founded during the 17th century by Mera Lama Lodre Gyaltso who is considered as a contemporary of the 5th Dalai Lama. It is Asia’s second largest monastery and India’s largest which controls 17 Gompas in the region. The highlights of this monastery are the imposing three-storied assembly hall and the 28 ft high golden statue of Lord Buddha. There is also a big library which has an impressive collection of ancient books and manuscripts. The famous Buddhist gold inscribed scriptures Kangyur and Tangyur are preserved here.
Day 14 : Tawang War Memorial
Tawang War Memorial Among the top Tawang attractions, this war memorial honors the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in 1962’s Indo-China War. Thus it is an important place to visit to relive historical events.
Day 15 : Tawang Craft Centre
Most of the tribesmen here make their own hats that are elaborately decorated and adorned with feathers of birds and tufts of hair dyed red. Besides, a host of other products are also made including baskets, bags, containers etc.
Day 16 : Urgelling Gompa
Urgelling Monastery is a beautiful monastery located at a distance of 5km from Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh. Its foundation was laid by Urgen Sangpo, the youngest brother of Terton Pempalingpa, the celebrated Treasure-Revealer. It was established in the 15th century. This place is the birth place of Tsangyang Gyatso, the Sixth Dalai Lama.
Day 17 : Madhuri Lake or Shonga Tser Lake
This lake is famous by the name Madhuri Lake as a well-known Bollywood song from the movie Koyla was shot here. Shonga Tser Lake offers mesmerizing views of the hills and mountains surrounding it. If you want peace and relaxation, this is the place to be.
Day 18 : Bumla Pass
Bumla Pass, situated at an altitude of over 15,000 ft is snowbound for almost the entire year due to its steep elevation and presents a beautiful view of the Tibetan plateau. The road to the pass takes visitors through many sleepy hamlets and scenic lakes, making the drive memorable. Maintained by the Indian Army, Bumla Pass is a must for those who want to see how Indian soldiers protect the borders in the harshest of climes. Those arriving here have very warm stories to share of how they were received by the Indian Army and offered refreshments as well as tips on how to adapt to the cold and high altitude. Bumla Pass is also one of the four officially agreed BPM (Border Personnel Meeting) points between the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army of China. On designated dates, cultural programmes are also organised by the two sides, which can be witnessed by people. A telescope and a few binoculars are kept near the Indian Army check post for visitors who want to know what lies beyond the border. The army canteen serves hot tea, water and dessert. A special permit is required for visiting the pass
Day 19 : Giant Buddha Statue
Once you reach Tawang you can see the giant statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is situated near the Tawang circuit on the small hill and also offers beautiful views. The statue was consecrated by H.E. Thegtse Rinpoche in the year 2015. Shakyamuni, in Sanskrit means Sage of the Shakyas nickname applied to Gautama Buddha.
Day 20 : Gorichen
Gorichen is the highest scalable peak in Arunachal Pradesh, towering at a height of over 21,300 ft above sea level. Because of its elevation, Gorichen remains snowbound throughout the year and has captivated the hearts of many seasoned mountaineers and adventure-loving trekkers. Situated at a distance of 164 km from the main town, this peak is locally known as Tsa-Nga-Phu, which translates into kingdom of the deity. One of the better views of this peak can be seen on the road between Bomdila and Tawang
