New Zealand is a sovereign island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses—the North Island, and the South Island —and around 600 smaller islands. It has a total land area of 268,000 square kilometres

There are just 4.8 million New Zealanders, scattered across 268,021 sq km: bigger than the UK with one-fourteenth of the population. Filling in the gaps are the sublime forests, mountains, lakes, beaches and fiords that have made NZ one of the best hiking (locals call it ‘tramping’) destinations on the planet. Tackle one of the epic ‘Great Walks’ – you might’ve heard of the Heaphy and Milford Tracks – or spend a few hours wandering along a beach, paddling a canoe or mountain biking through some easily accessible wilderness.

  The moment of arrival in Rotorua is somehow quite different. There is a scent of sulphur in the air. At the nearby geothermal hotspots, there are spouting geysers, mud pools bubbling and warm geothermal pools and ponds that create a kaleidoscope of colour. Rotorua is also the heartland of New Zealand’s Maoridom and the warm spirit of this living culture will captivate and enthral.

  Agrodome for a one-hour performance seeing nineteen sheep breeds introduced onto the stage, the art of sheep shearing, sheepdog demonstrations (9.30 -10.30 am)

  Today visit Te Puia Geothermal Reserve to view the boiling mud pools and cascading Pohutu geyser and see local Maori carvers in action. (11.00 -1200 pm)

  Visit the Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park where hundreds of brown and rainbow trout can be seen. Next, travel onto the (1.15-2.15 pm)

  Stop at Huka Falls – 30 Minutes
