Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrive Chennai

  Arrival at Madras airport in early morning, meeting with our representative & car transfer to your hotel for an early check-in to catch up with some sleep. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at the 4* Accord Metropole ( Deluxe room ) in Chennai.
• Day 2 : Chennai - Kanchipuram - Mahabalipuram (B/-/-)

  After breakfast enjoy a morning guided sightseeing tour of Chennai visiting Santhome Cathedral Church, St. Thomas Mount & Fort St. George.
  Afternoon excursion to Kanchipuram(70 km / 2 hours drive ), which was under the Pallavas from the 6th to 8th century AD and later became the citadel of the Cholas, Vijaya-nagar Kings, the Muslim and the British. It has been a centre of Tamil learning, cultural and religious background for centuries. Kanchipuram has magnificent temples of unique architectural beauty bearing eloquent testimony to its glorious Dravidian heritage. Later proceed to Mahabalipuram (60 km / 1.5 hour). Upon arrival check in at4* Ideal Beach Resort (Deluxe room ), 5 min drive from town centre for overnight.

• Day 3 : Mahabalipuram - Pondicherry (B/-/-)

  Morning visit the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram and continue by road ( 201 KMS / 04 HRS Approx) to Pondicherry, an old French colonial city. Afternoon tour of Pondicherry includes Sri Aurobindo Ashram & Pondicherry Museum. Overnight in Pondicherry at Ananda Inn Hotel (Executive room).

• Day 4 : Pondicherry - Tanjore (B/-/-)

  After breakfast depart by road (200 km / 04 hours drive approx) to Tanjore en-route visiting Chidambaram ( 70 km from Pondicherry ). Other stops en route are:
  Chidambaram - Gangaikonda cholapuram : 50 km
  Gangaikonda Cholapuram - Dara Suram : 40 km
  Darasuram - Tanjore : 40 km
  Upon arrival in Tanjore check in at your hotel. Time to relax and freshen up before a mid-afternoon visit to the beautiful Chola Temple of Brihadeeshwara. The temple is capped by a monolithic cupola made of a single granite block weighing 80 tones, which was taken to the top with the help of a 6 km long ramp, an old technique used by the
  
  Egyptians for building the Pyramids. Its bronzes and handicrafts make Tanjore one of the highlights of a visit to South India. Overnight in Tanjore at Ideal Riverview Resort ( River facing room ).
• Day 5 : Tanjore - Trichy - Rameshwaram (B/-/-)

  0800 AM pick up from hotel for a long drive to Rameshwaram ( 250 km / 05 hours drive) en-route visiting the Rock Fort & the temple complex of Srirangam at Tiruchirappali in Trichy (60 km/1.5 hour drive). Continue by road and on arrival check-in at your hotel. Overnight at Daiwick 3* hotel ( Deluxe room) in Rameshwaram ( best available ).
• Day 6 : Rameshwaram (B/-/-)

  Morning visit the temples of Rameshwaram for a deeper insight into South India's legendary stories and belief in Hindu gods: Dhanushkodi temple, Jada Tirtham temple, Agnitheertham temple with its 22 wells where devotees can wash away their sins by bathing with water from the wells, Gandhamadhana Parvatham temple believed to bear footprints of Lord Rama. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight stay at the same hotel.
• Day 7 : Rameshwaram - Kanyakumari (B/-/-)

  Morning drive to Kanyakumari (370 km / 7 hours approx) with optional stops in Madurai to visit the major temples of Tamil Nadu by tuk tuk. On arrival in Kanyakumari checkin at the 4* Sparsa Hotel (Deluxe room) for overnight.
• Day 8 : Kanyakumari - Kovalam (B/-/-)

  Early morning enjoy the sunrise in Kanyakumari. Return to the Hotel for Breakfast.
  Morning city tour of Kanyakumari includes : Kanyakumari temple ( also known as Bhagvati Ammam ) one of the major Hindu temples in India, the iconic monument Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Dravidian style Suchindrum temple adorned with massive gopurams.
  Afternoon drive to Kovalam enroute visit to Padmanabhapuram Palace. The old granite fortress was the residence of the Travancore rulers and was built around 1601 AD. In the fort complex visitors can see the King’s council Chamber, Thai Kottaram or the Mother’s palace and the Natakasala or the house of performances etc... Overnight at the Leela Kovalam ( Beach view superior room).

  After breakfast drive to Varkala ( 60 km/ 1,5 hours drive). Check in at the Taj Gateway hotel. Afternoon guided visits include Janardana Swami Temple, one of the religious sites of Varkala, believed to have been constructed about 2,000 years ago, Anjengo Fort a testimonial to many historic events and links related to the colonial rule in the region, Varkala Tunnel, also known Varkala Turuthu built by the British to establish an inland waterway that was meant to serve as a trade route, Kappil Lake and Varkala Lighthouse.

  Morning depart by road for Cochin ( 80 km /2 hours drive ). Upon arrival check in at your hotel. Later proceed for city tour of Cochin. Often known as the ‘Venice of the East’, the city of Cochin has wonderfully diverse influences. Today you will view the Chinese fishing nets, tour the Dutch Palace and Synagogue in the old Jewish town and visit St. Francis Church, built by the Portuguese in 1510 AD. Overnight in Cochin at the Brunton Boatyard (Standard sea facing room).

  After an early breakfast, at about 07:30 depart by road to Conoor ( 270 km/ 08 hours Approx). Upon arrival check in at Taj Gateway hotel (standard room). Overnight in Conoor.

  Enjoy a leisurely breakfast followed by a guided Conoor tour including the Botanical garden, Doddabeda the highest peak of Tamil Nadu and the main market in town. Overnight in Coonoor.

  Early breakfast and transfer to train station for a ride on the toy train to Ooty, departing at 0745 hrs and arriving Ooty at 0905 hrs. Later proceed for a city tour of Ooty.   Morning drive to Hassan (155 km/ 4 hours) en route visiting Shrvanabelagola. Upon arrival check in at your hotel. Afternoon visit Belur & Halebid. Belur on the banks of river Yagachi, 38 km from Hassan was the capital of the Hoysalas and referred to as Velapur, Velur and Belahur at different points in history. The town is renowned for its Chennakeshava temple, one of the finest examples of Hoysala workmanship. Halebid temple is located 17 kms away from Belur and is another example of magnificence temple architecture displaying legends & stories carved in stone.
