Today is the first day of the tour and we will begin it with a drive from Frankfurt to Eisenach, a city located to the Northeast of Frankfurt, between the northern foothills of the Thuringian Forest and the Hainich National Park. The city's history is dominated by the Wartburg Castle, an 11th century Castle, one of the most important buildings of German history and a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized as an 'Outstanding Monument of the Feudal Period in Central Europe'. We will enjoy a guided tour of the Wartburg Castle - and visit the room where the exiled Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German - only the second translation into a modern language in millennia. Three hundred years before, St. Elizabeth of Hungary spent almost all her life at the Wartburg Castle and was later canonized as a saint by the church for her charitable work. Afterwards, we continue to a cultural treasure, the city of Weimar, where numerous famous persons like Goethe, Schiller, Liszt and Richard Strauss lived and worked. In the evening, our welcome dinner will be served at our hotel. Overnight in Weimar.
After the breakfast today, we will continue on our tour and drive to Dresden, the capital of the Free State of Saxony. On a city tour of Dresden, you will get to know one of the loveliest cities of Central Europe. Due to its mild climate, the baroque architecture and the renowned museums, Dresden is also called 'Florence of the Elbe'. See sights such as the famous Semper Opera House; the Zwinger, a Baroque-style Palace, which served as the orangery, exhibition gallery and festival arena of the Dresden Court in the olden days and is currently a museum complex with a number of exhibitions including the Armoury, the Dresden Porcelain Collection, Old Masters Picture Gallery and the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments; the Green Vault Museum, which has the largest collection of treasures in Europe or another important museum of your choice and, overall, the restored Frauenkirche, a beautiful 18th Century Lutheran Church. You are free to explore the city on your own or relax at the hotel after the tour. Overnight in Dresden.
Today, we will depart from Dresden after breakfast and proceed to Wittenberg where the reformation started on 31.10.1517 when Martin Luther, according to legend, nailed his 95 theses to the portal of the Castle Church. Afterwards, we depart towards Potsdam and enjoy a tour of the impressive courtyards of Sanssouci Palace, the former summer residence of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. In the late afternoon, we will arrive at Berlin. Overnight in Berlin.
Today, after breakfast, we will enjoy a big city tour, which will take us through all the highlights of Germany's capital and most exciting city. See Brandenburg Gate, the only remaining gate of the City's original Gates; the seat of German parliament Reichstag, which is an architectural marvel with its glass dome that not only illuminates the interiors but also offers exquisite panoramic views of the city; and the Victory Column, which commemorate the Prussian victory in the Danish-Prussian War. We will also visit sights such as the Palace Bellevue, a late-18th Century palace originally built as the summer residence for Prince August Ferdinand of Prussia, the younger brother of King Frederick II of Prussia; currently, the palace is the official residence of the President of Germany. Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial Church, an iconic landmark that was destroyed during a bombing raid in 1943 and since then has been retained in its destroyed state as a symbol of the aftermaths of war and the city's resolve to rebuild the city anew. Adjacent to it are the new church building and the bell tower, both magnificent pieces of architecture with exquisite interiors. Checkpoint Charlie, another major sight, is a reminder of the Civil War, when Berlin was divided into two by the Berlin Wall. Crossing from one side to the other was possible through the Checkpoint Charlie crossing point. Boulevard Unter den Linden, a scenic boulevard lined with several attractions and lime trees and the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral), the largest church in Berlin are other attractions that we visit. The afternoon is free for own activities like discovering the museums island or shopping in the numerous boutiques and department stores like KaDeWe. Take the opportunity to do an optional boat trip, which gives you some memorable views from the River Spree. Please just ask your guide! Overnight in Berlin.
Today we will head north to our next stop - Hamburg. Enjoy all the main sights of this booming city like St. Michaelis Church, called Michel, St. Pauli Quarter, Landungsbruecken, Speicherstadt and the brand-new HafenCity before discovering Germany's largest port on a typical harbour cruise. Overnight in Hamburg.
After breakfast, we will proceed to Bremen, the free Hanseatic City at River Weser with an old tradition of seafaring. Check out the market square, which houses the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of early 15th Century Statue of Roland, paladin of the first Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and hero of the Battle of Roncevaux Pass and the Town Hall as well as other landmarks such as the Bremen Cathedral and the bronze statue of Grimms' Bremer stadtmusikanten, a statue of donkey, dog, a cat and a rooster one atop the other, inspired by the folk tale The Bremen Town Musicians. Rub the donkey's shiny front hooves and a wish comes true! After a walk through the narrow streets of Schnoor quarter with tiny houses, we turn onto the famous German Fairy Tale Route. In the afternoon we reach Hamelin, a city known for the Pied Piper, another legend appeared in the writings of the Brothers Grimm. Its former wealth - due to its favourable location as trading centre on the river Weser - was reflected in its lavishly decorated houses. The delightful centre is a listed site of historical interest. After the check-in at the hotel, we will celebrate our farewell dinner. Overnight in Hamelin.
Along the River Weser, we follow the Fairy Tale Route towards the small and unique city of Hann.Muenden. Never destroyed, Hann.Muenden is one of the best preserved half-timbered places in Germany. Enjoy this jewel of Weser Renaissance style before we continue our trip to Frankfurt. On the further way to the south, we will make stops along the road, depending on the weather and traffic situation. In the afternoon, we reach Frankfurt where a panoramic city tour of Germany's financial capital awaits us. Overnight in Frankfurt.
Our exciting journey ends with breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we will be chauffeured to the Frankfurt Airport to board the flight back home or on to our next destination.
