Day 1 : On this tour
On this tour we visit the home of the Kelpies, the largest equine horse-head sculptures in the world. These impressive 30-metre high horse-heads expertly designed by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott, hark back to the history and heritage of the working heavy horse pulling barges alone the Forth & Clyde Canals which can only be appreciated when standing up close to them. From here it’s a short drive to visit the Falkirk Wheel, an exceptional feat of engineering and the first rotating boat lift in the world, connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. We then travel the magnificent Stirling Castle, with the option to visit the castles many historic 14th & 15th century buildings including the great hall and royal palace, before continuing our journey along the scenic back roads of the Trossachs National Park, to your accommodation.
Highlights include- the Kelpies, the largest equine sculptors in the world. The Falkirk Wheel, the first rotating boat lift in the world. Stirling Castle, the magnificent former royal residence of the Stuart monarchs. Doune Castle, (photo stop) impressive 15th century medieval stronghold. The Trossachs, beautiful scenic back roads also knowing as the Highlands in miniature. (photo stops) Loch Lomond, a lovely scenic spot to end the day.
