The territory of Nepal has a recorded history since the Neolithic age. The name “Nepal” is first recorded in texts from the Vedic Age, the era which founded Hinduism, the predominant religion of the country. In the middle of the first millennium BCE, Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was born in southern Nepal. Parts of northern Nepal were intertwined with the culture of Tibet.In Sri Lanka all entrance fees at historical sites as per programme must be paid directly in Sri Lankan Rupees in Sri Lanka, it will cost USD 175 per person (approx.) for the Sri Lanka part of the tour. Please change Foreign currency in to SLRS at the airport post customs, there are many 24hr bank counters at the airport as all these payments have to be made only in SLRS. No credit card payments are accepted at these sites/places. (Subject to change slightly sometimes, details are provided with rates as applicable at the moment). (Children under 12 years will be charged half rate in most places)
Day 1 : Airport (sri Lanka) / Negombo / Sigiriya
Arrival, welcome & assistance at the airport and then leave for Sigiriya, en-route visit the fishing village in Negombo which is the center of the islands fishing community. It is largely Roman Catholic by faith, with huge imposing churches down almost every street. The sea & the catamarans are the backdrop to the Negombo scenery. At P.M. climb the lion rock of Sigiriya built by the patricide King Kashyapa in the 5th century A.D. Today its a treasure trove of rare art. In the pocket of the giant rock are the famous frescoes of the heavenly maidens of Sigiriya. Return to the hotel for the overnight stay .
Day 2 : Polonnaruwa / Anuradapura
After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa & visit the 2nd capital of the Sinhalese kings dating back to the 11th & 12th century A.D. The entire landscape of the region is punctuated by huge man-made reservoirs, the most famous of which is the Parakrama Samudraa. Numerous monuments are found in this city & at the Gal Vihara complex which is one of the best among them with the fine sculpture of the recumbent, Standing and seated Buddhaa. At P.M. leave for Anuradhapura & visit the ruins of the first capital founded in the 05th century BC which has the largest number of ancient monuments of a great civilization.
Day 3 : Sigiriya/ Dambulla/ Nalanda/matale/kandy
After breakfast leave for Kandy en-route visit the rock cave temple of Dambulla. Some of the frescoes in these caves are over 2000 years old. There is a colossal figure of the recumbent Buddha 14 meters long carved out of rock and then visit Nalanda Gedige the Abu Simbal of Sri Lanka. On the way to Kandy you can visit a spice garden & a batik factory in Matale. In Evening you would arrive at an hotel in Kandy, the center of the traditional arts in Sri Lanka and you would visit the temple of the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. After the excursion return back to the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 4 : Kandy / Pinnawala / Kandy
After breakfast you would leave for Pinnawela & pay a visit to the elephant orphanage. The orphanage was established to feed nurse & house young elephants abandoned by their mothers. During the drought period the young ones often fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water. At P.M. visit the city of Kandy which is the most famous landmark of Kandy is its lake, in the center of the city. Visit the Kandy Museum and the Kandy market a great bazaar swarming with shoppers. Late in the evening view the Kandyan cultural performance and return to the hotel for the overnight stay .
Day 5 : Kandy / Peradeniya / Nuwaraeliya
After breakfast visit the royal botanical gardens of Peradeniya which is well known for its large variety of plants which have ornamental, decorative, useful & medicinal properties. The garden constitutes of more than 4000 species of indigenous and introduced plants. The garden is best known for its collection of orchids the largest in Asia. At P.M. leave for Nuwaraeliya the center of hill country, en-route visit a tea plantation and witness the manufacture of the world famous Ceylon tea . Spend the evening walking in the cool climate. Arrive at the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 6 : Nuwaraeliya / Ella/ Buduruwagala/kataragama/yala
After breakfast leave for Tissamaharama Region Stop at Ella to admire the magnificent view. You must visit Buduruwagala & the sacred city of Kataragama. At P.M get ready for a safari in the Yala park. The Elephant is undoubtedly the best known attraction at Yala, seen in small & large herds. Herds of spotted deer are seen all over the park too. Monkeys-the pinkish rhesus and the Grey-faced Langur Monkey live and play on the tree-tops and the ground below. Wild buffalo & wild boar would startle you with their appearance & the sight of a leopard sunning itself or drinking water at a water hole would be memorable experience you could treasure for a lifetime!. The peacock is the most popular bird at the park and visitors can view other birds too like the painted stork, many varieties of heron, the spoonbill, the bee-eater, parakeets, king-fisher & wood pecker. Arrive at the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 7 : Weligama / Galle / Colombo
After breakfast leave for Galle. en route view the Still fisherman of Weligama then visit the old Portuguese fort, later rebuilt and extended by the Dutch is still fine preservation. Most of the administration of Galle still takes place from the fort .the view from the ramparts is superb. On the way to Colombo at P.M visit the fascinating city of Colombo which links the past with the present. You will visit the fort area, the commercial center, Pettah Colombos bustling bazaar area, a cinnamon garden which comprises of large residences, Buddhist temples, Hindu temples & mosques. You can visit the Buddhist temple in Kelaniya too. Return to the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 8 : Colombo / Air Port / Arrival in Kathmandu Airport
After breakfast get ready for the transfer to the airport in order to connect the flight for departure. The rooms will be available untill 12h00 in the afternoon. ARRIVAL AT KATHMANDU AND TRANSFER TO HOTEL The flight to Kathmandu is an unforgettable experience as the vast expanse of the great himalayan mountains is a breathtaking sight that would unfold before your eyes! You would meet an representative at the airport on arrival and you would be transferred to your hotel. At PM: Visit Kathmandu airy and Swoyambhunath ( stay overnight at Kathmandu).
Day 9 : Kathmandu City Sightseeing
Discover Kathmandus traditional Cultures, inhabitants and world renowned Durbar square areas. A full day of the sightseeing program includes the main historic and religious sights of Kathmandu. Kathmandus Durbar Square are a constant, teeming mass of life with over 50 monuments, some dating back to the 12th century, the most famous are the remains of the old Royal Palace and the Kumari Bahal, the residence of the living goddess found on a wooded hill to the west, stands the incredible golden-topped stupa of Swayambhunath, dating back at least as far as the 5th century. It is the most sacred of Buddhist sites in Kathmandu and Newari Buddhists are the most fervent devotees. You can visit Patan City & the Tibetan Refugee Camp. The visits will be coordinated according to your 1st day arrival time in Kathmandu and If possible some will be done on the day you arrive.
Day 10 : Kathmandu / Chithwan National Park
Early in the morning enjoy a drive to Chitwan (4-5hrs drive) National Park. Chitwan is the most popular choice of those in search of jungle adventure. The park is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, one-horned rhino, sloth bear, langur monkeys, wild boar, and numerous species of deer, leopard, other jungle cats and over 400 resident and migratory bird species. (Stay Overnight at Chitwan for *2 nts)
Day 11 : Chithwan Jungle Activities
Explore Chitwan and indulge in Chitwan activities such as Jungle Safari, elephant rides, cultural dance performances with Tharu and Canoe etc.
Day 13 : Pokhara Sightseeing
Two days of sightseeing which introduces the major highlights of Pokhara. You can engage in activities such as boating in Fewa Lake, Sarankot Hiking (Sarangkot is spectacular view point for Panoramic Himalaya range), visiting Davis fall and natural cave as well as Hiking up to the world peace stupa.
Day 14 : Pokhara Kathmandu
Drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. (Stay overnight at Kathmandu with Bed & Bfast)
Day 15 : Kathmandu Airport
Check out from the hotel after breakfast & drive to Kathmandu airport for onward flight back home.
