The Udaipur City Palace is unquestionably one of the most stunning structures in the city and makes the perfect jumping off point for an Udaipur itinerary. Much of the palace complex is dominated by the City Palace Museum and its collection of art and artifacts, but the halls, smaller palaces and gardens are also well worth exploring, particularly for the intricate murals, glass inlays, silver-work and mirror-work. Make sure to stop by the Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel, one of two hotels housed within the City Palace Complex, to see the crystal gallery. The unused collection of crystal furniture, including sofas, beds, tables and chairs, best characterizes the opulence of the city and its rulers. After touring the palace, head north from the entrance to visit the Jagdish Temple, dedicated to the god Vishnu.

KUMBHALGARH FORT is the most renowned site in Kumbhalgarh. The fort is the second important fort in Rajasthan after Chittaurgarh Fort. Surrounded by 13 mountain peaks and strengthened by watchtowers and rounded bastions, the Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in 15years and was constructed by Rana Kumbha. Stretching across the distance of 36km of the Aravalli Mountains, the fort houses a domed palace and rises to the height of 1100metres above the sea level. The fort has seven gates and each of them is wide enough for eight horses to march abreast through these gates.
RANAKPURRenowned for some marvelously carved Jain temples in amber stones, Ranakpur is one of the five holy places of the Jain community. These temples were created in the 15th century A.D. during the reign of Rana Kumbha and are enclosed within a wall. The central 'Chaumukha' or four faced temple is dedicated to the venerated Tirthankara Rishabhji. Open on all four sides, it enshrines the four faced image of Adinath. Sprawling over 48,000 sq.feet, the temple is an astounding creation with 29 halls and 1,444 pillars - all distinctly carved. Images of 24 tirthankaras are carved on the 'Mandaps' or porticoes in a corridor around the shrine with each mandap having a 'Shikhar' or spire adorned with little bells on the top. The gentle breeze wafting through the corridors move the bells creating celestial music all around the complex. Rising in three stories, the temple has four small shrines with 80 spires supported by 420 columns. Two temples, dedicated to the Jain saints - Parsvanath and Neminath, face the main temple. The temples have beautiful carvings similar to that of Khajuraho. Another temple worth visiting is the nearby Sun Temple, an 8th century A.D. temple dedicated to the Sun god. The temple has polygonal walls, richly embellised with carvings of warriors, horses and solar detties riding splendid chariots.

Chittorgarh (Chittaurgarh) is the epitome of Rajput pride, romance and spirit. It reverberates with history of heroism and sacrifice, which is evident as it echoes with the tales sung by the Bards of Rajasthan. The main reason for visiting Chittorgarh is its massive hilltop fort, which is a depiction of Rajput culture and values.
The fort of Chittor is regarded as one of the most outstanding forts of the country and is indeed the "Pride of Rajasthan State". The formidable fort is perched atop a 180 meter high hillock covering a massive area of 700 acres and is a standing sentinel to the courage and valour of Chittorgarh. It is belived that the fort was build by the Mauryans in 7th century and further strucres were added to it by the successive Mewar rulers.
The one mile long serpentine road to the fort is quite steep and exhastive. The fort is approached through seven huge gateways or 'pols', which are guarded by watch tower and massive iron spiked doors.
