Explore one of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca on a 5-hour Valldemossa Tour, and visit La Cartuja Monastery to see where Frederic Chopin spent the winter of 1838-39. Wander around the narrow streets and lanes, filled with cafés and gift stores.
A splendid landscape of mountains and plains filled with almond and olive trees greets you, en route to Valldemossa, a peaceful town which has served to inspire musicians and painters. One of the first visitors to this area was the Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria. Apart from his visits to the region, he bought many acres of land along with their respective ranches. Some of these ranches are still preserved, as is the case with “S Estaca” ranch, which currently belongs to Michael Douglas, the famous American actor.
Your accessible vehicle will leave you at the foot of the “Cartuja”, a former Carthusian monastery perched 1,200 feet above the Musa Valley. Its construction has been dated to 1309 and was occupied by Cartujanos Priests. The church was later added during the 15th century. Two centuries later, during the winter of 1838-39, Aurora Dupin, who went by the renowned literary name of George Sand, and her lover, Frédéric Chopin, spent three months there, hoping to conquer the composer’s tuberculosis. The rooms that Sand and Chopin occupied (and where he wrote some of his most important works) are now a museum, where you can see two of his pianos, as well as a draft of Sand’s entertaining book “Winter in Mallorca.”
Before your return to Palma, you will make a visit to “Sa Foradada”. The name is in reference to the rock wall along the coast with a large hole at the point, (Foradada meaning, “with a hole”). With its contrast between the mountains and the sea it’s no wonder why it is named one of the most beautiful landscapes in Mallorca.
Upon arrival to Palma you´ll admire the city´s highlights on a panoramic drive along its sea promenade.
