Package Overview

Way Kambas National Park (130.000 ha) lies on Sumatra's southeast coast in the province Lampung and easily reachable with the ferry from Java. It consists of swamp forest, lowland rainforest, mangrove forests, dry beach forests, Nibung swamps and vast areas of grass-land.



The park is famous for his Sumatran Elephants of which a large number comes from the Elephant Training School Pusat Latihan Gajah. Moreover, the reserve supports over 270 species of birds.



From Jakarta you need to fly to Bandar Lampung, Way Kambas national park can be reached by bus or by car that takes two and a half hours journey.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : ARRIVAL BANDAR LAMPUNG - WAY KAMBAS - NIGHT WALK

  ARRIVAL BANDAR LAMPUNG – WAY KAMBAS – NIGHT WALK

  • Meals & Drinks : Dinner

• Day 2 : ELEPHANT SAFARI + BAMBANGAN

  After breakfast, you will proceed to The Way Kambas Elephant Training Centre where you will be assigned a mahout and an Elephant. Remember to take some sugar cane from the Lodge garden to give to your Elephant to cement your relationship. You proceed for a ride in the forest (30 - 60 minutes according to your taste). Then depart to Bambangan. This is new and important reafforestation area 10 km from the Elephant Training Centre. You will finish your visit to the Elephant Centre, then travel in 4 wheel drive vehicle to the Savanah near forest. Picnic lunch. A short walk 20 minutes, through forest to a river where you will see birds, perhaps the endangered white-winged duck, on returning to the Ranger station. You can plan the tree, which contributes to the future of the National Park, on the way back you may be lucky enough to see wild elephant, deer or forest pig. Picnic lunch. Back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

• Day 3 : RIVER BOAT + WALK TO KALIBIRU

  Morning you will drive slowly through the Park to Way Kanan stopping to see and hear the Siomang Gibbons calling. You will then take a boat to Kalibiru (around 60 minutes). Then you will proceed on a fascinating walk either to a game viewing platform or to Rawa Gajah, a swamp area where often Elephants are seen. Depending on the season, this area is grassland or under waist deep water. Sambar deer, wild pig, binturong and the endangered white winged wood duck have been seen here. The trail often shows scats, pug marks and tree scratching of Tigers. This makes the trip really exciting. Picnic lunch on the park. After a picnic lunch, you will walk slowly back to the boat and who knows what you may see on the river on return, hopefully primates, different bird species, deer and maybe elephants. A great days wildlife experience. Back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

• Day 4 : BIRDING, SIOMANG GIBBONS - BANDAR LAMPUNG - PADANG

  Take an early bird walk with Guide and also see the village activities or cycle to hear the Siamang gibbons with one of the Park Rangers to see and hear the haunting calls of the Siomang Gibbons returning to the Lodge for a well earned breakfast. After relaxing breakfast transfer back to airport for flight to Padang.
