4 Nights / 5 Days
Wildlife sightings are common in this remote area. You may see black bears, otters, and deer feeding in the tidal flats at the head of Orca Cove.
Of course, paddling beside humpbacks is truly a unique and humbling experience.
The following paddle plan represents the possibilities of this area. This route is subject to change to facilitate whale watching, and prevailing conditions. Humpbacks and Orcas are likely to be encountered.
Arrive in Whittier by 10:00 AM. We will pack our gear into dry bags and your guides will offer an initial orientation. We will water taxi to Point Nowell, load our kayaks and paddle to Ewan Bay for our first camp. We will explore Ewan Bay and it's tidal waterfall, from camp.
We will break camp, and paddle into Icy Bay, and camp on it's shore or in Nassau Fjord, ice permitting. Chenega Glacier is a magnificent sight. We will also paddle into Gaamaak Cove to visit the always busy Black Legged Kittiwake rookery.
After breaking camp, we will paddle from Icy Bay or Nassau Fjord. We will visit the spectacular Chenega (if we haven't already) or Tiger Glaciers, both emanating from the expansive Sargent Ice Field. We will then paddle the opposite shore of Icy Bay, and set up camp at Dual Head for the next two nights.
We will continue to explore in Icy Bay, as well as Whale Bay, Humpback Cove, and Orca Cove.
We will continue to explore these areas, and break camp for a mid-afternoon water taxi back to Whittier.
