Day 2 : Cape Town
Today your guide will collect you for a full day tour of Cape Town.
We start with a short tour to see the key historical and architectural sites of the "Mother City". Weather permitting, we will then ascend Table Mountain by cable car to enjoy one of the world’s most famous views (alternatively we drive up Signal Hill, with its wonderful view point).
We continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, where we take a boat ride to see the Cape Fur seals at Seal Island.
Afterwards we visit Kirstenbosch Gardens, nestled on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and regarded as one the most beautiful botanic gardens in the world. Bequeathed to the nation by Cecil John Rhodes, the garden was established 1913. There is an avenue of camphor trees, a beautiful protea and fynbos garden, useful plants garden, sculpture garden and a dell garden as well as a world class collection of indigenous South African flora. Wonderful summer sunset concerts are held in the gardens on Sunday evenings from December to March.
Note: For Seal Island you will be lifted in your manual wheelchair into the boat, so this will not be possible for very heavy guests, nor for power chairs. There is no accessible toilet on the boat.
Day 3 : Cape Peninsula
Today your guide will collect you for a full day tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
Enjoy wonderful ocean views as we drive around the Cape Peninsula to naval Simonstown, where we visit the resident penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
We continue to Cape Point where we hope to see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July to November). We take an accessible funicular ride up to the Old Lighthouse, before returning via spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Town.
Day 4 : Stellenbosch Winelands
Enjoy a full day tour of the renowned Stellenbosch Winelands today, travelling through the scenic Franschhoek Valley where a handful of French Huguenot refugees started South Africa’s now famous wine industry. Visit the historic university town of Stellenbosch and several different wine estates of your choice – sampling as you go!
Enjoy lunch at a good restaurant or wine estate (own account), and visit the Cheetah Outreach Project in Somerset West on the way home.
Day 5 : Cape Town
This morning your guide will show you more of the dramatic and contrasting beauty of South Africa on your scenic 5-hour drive from Cape Town along spectacular Route 62 towards Oudtshoorn in the arid Little Karoo.
We travel through the beautiful Cape Winelands and Breede River Valley, where we enjoy wine tasting at a wine estate renowned for its port, before checking into our accommodation in the small town of Calitzdorp.
Day 6 : Oudsthoorn
This morning we visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch outside Oudsthoorn, to see cheetah and crocodiles up close.
Afterwards we visit an Ostrich Farm to learn more about these huge flightless birds and their magnificent plumage.
In the afternoon we travel 2-hours through the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to Knysna on the beautiful Garden Route. Check in to your hotel and relax in this area of outstanding natural beauty.
Note: In season we recommend bookings Knysna restaurants online in advance of your visit, to avoid disappointment.
Day 7 : Knysna Waterfront
This morning make your way to Knysna Waterfront in good time to board the MV John Benn for a relaxing 1.5-hour cruise to the 'Heads' of beautiful Knysna Lagoon, including lunch on board.
In the afternoon a special treat awaits – a visit to a Knysna Elephant Park where you will have the opportunity to feed one of these gentle giants.
Day 8 : Garden Route
Today transfer 1-hour from Knysna along the beautiful Garden Route to your malaria free private game lodge located near Mossel Bay.
After checking in, enjoy an exciting afternoon game drive with a lodge ranger.
Day 9 : Private Nature Reserve
Rise at dawn to enjoy an open-top game drive in your Private Nature Reserve - where you can hope to see lion, elephant, zebra, giraffe, kudu, warthogs and many other interesting species before returning to your lodge for breakfast.
The rest of the morning is free to relax by the lodge swimming pool, before setting out again in the late afternoon for another game drive. With many different bird species, outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed.
After a beautiful African sunset, enjoy the balmy evening and pristine stars of the Milky Way as you have never seen them before – as well as the spectacular Southern Cross.
Note: You need some upper body strength for this safari, as you will need to be lifted into the front seat of the game viewing vehicle. Children < 6 are not allowed on open top game drives. Other safari alternatives are available, using an accessible vehicle, if you do not have upper body strength or if you are travelling with young children.
Day 10 : Heidelberg
Today we travel 3-hours towards the small town of Heidelberg.
Our first stop is at Mossel Bay, where the famous Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Dias landed and erected a cross. He was the first European to set foot on South African soil. Here we visit the Dias Museum, which has a life-sized replica of his ship. At the centre of the complex is the famous Post Office Tree, an ancient Milkwood where early sailors left mail for homebound ships.
Afterwards we drive to the small town of Albertinia, where we visit an Aloe shop and learn more about the healing properties of this fascinating succulent plant.
In the afternoon we check into our guest farm in the farming district of Heidelberg.
Note: The Aloe Factory is closed on a Sunday.
Day 11 : Departure
Provided the farmer is not harvesting, this morning enjoy an authentic South African farm experience before continuing through the old town of Swellendam with its wonderful history and architecture.
We return to Cape Town via the apple orchards of Elgin and Sir Lowry’s Pass, a scenic drive of around 3-hours, with drop off at Cape Town Airport for your flight home.
