“Wildlife and Nature” will show you the wonderful and exceptional landscape and biodiversity of Madagascar through its natural parks. If you are a nature lover, this trip is for you. Ranomafana is home to 12 endangered lemur species and over 115 listed bird species, 30of which are endemic. Spend a few nights in Isalo National Park with 77 species of birds including the threatened Benson rock-thrush, 14 species of nocturnal lemurs, 7 of which are endemic and over 400 plant species, most of them are endemic to Madagascar. From Isalo to Tulear, the Zombitse National Park is a good place for birding and to see some baobabs. The last step is Toliara, enjoy the spiny forest of Reniala and arboretum d’Antsokay.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival - Antananarivo – Andasibe( 150km, +/- 4 Hours)

Meet your driver/guide (at the airport or from your hotel in Antananarivo) no later than 14H10 then drive eastward to Andasibe through the typical landscape of the highland and the eastern rain forest.
Arrival in Andasibe late in the afternoon and settling in your room.
Accommodation includes breakfast for 3nights.

Day 2 : Andasibe

Breakfast at the hotel.Morning visit of the Analamazaotra reserve which is a special reserve for the Indri Indri, the largest living lemur. In the afternoon, visit the private reserve of Mitsinjo where you can still enjoy observing lemurs, discovering endemic fauna and flora. Evening walk to spotnocturnal specieslike the mouse lemur, dwarf lemur, wolly lemur, chameleons, frogs
Day 3 : Andasibe

Breakfast at the hotel.Morning walk within the primary forest of the Mantadia National Park where diurnal lemur species like the Black and white ruffed lemur, the diademed sifaka lemur, the common brown lemur, the eastern grey bamboo lemur and the red bellied lemur might be spotted as well as different endemic species of birds. In the afternoon, visit of the private reserve of the Vakona including its small island for lemurs.
Day 4 : Andasibe - Antananarivo – Antsirabe.

Breakfast at the hotel, then drive back to Antananarivo and continue southward to Antsirabe always through the typical landscape of the highland (rice fields, typical villages of the Merina tribe, rocky hills….). On the way, stop at the Peyreiras reptiles farm for observing different endemic species of chameleons, lizards, geckoes, frogs. Continue and arrive in Antsirabe in the late afternoon, settle in your room. Accommodation includes breakfast.

Day 5 : Wed - Antsirabe - Ranomafana

Breakfast at the hotel.Then city tour in the town of Antsirabe which is the Industrial and agricultural center of Madagascar. The town is well known as well for precious and semi-precious stones. Continue to Ambositra after the visit. Arrive in Ambositra, the capital of the Malagasy handicrafts. Visit different handicrafts shops then have lunch in a restaurant (at your own charge). In the afternoon, continue to Ranomafana. Leave the highland and head to the southeastern of Madagascar, crossing the area of the Tanala tribe. Upon arrival, settle in your hotel.

Day 6 : Ranomafana

Spend 2 days to explore the Ranomafana National Park.
Walk in the park where three species of bamboo lemurs are found (grey bamboo lemur, golden bamboo lemur and the greater bamboo lemur). Other lemur species like the Milen’sedwardsSifaka, common brown lemur, red bellied lemur might be also spotted during the visit. Endemic birds like the ground rollers, vangas, couas, brown mesite, coukoo rollers, asity, etc. are also found within this forest. In the afternoon, visit the Vohiparara forest which is well known for a bird watching site and where you might spot the yellow-bellied asity, the Madagascar Yellowbrow, Madagascar forest fody, Cryptic warbler.

Day 7 : Ranomafana

Day 8 : Ranomafana - Ambalavao - Ranohira

After breakfast, drive southward to Ambalavao. Visit the Antemoro paper factory. After the visit, continue to Ranohira. Different photo stops on the way: the south gate, the bishop’s hat, the Horombe table land where the Reunion Harrier bird might be spotted.Arrival in Ranohira by the end of the afternoon.
Installation at the hotel. Accommodation includes breakfast for 2 nights.

Day 9 : Ranohira

Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to the village of Ranohira to pick your local guide. Transfer to the parking area where you start walking towards the famous “Piscine Naturelle” through the beautiful landscape of Isalo National Park and endemic plants like the Aloes, Pachypodium, Kalanchoes, Tapia trees…. Spend about 30minutes at the pool then continue to walk towards the Namaza site. It takes about 2hours.Arrive at the camping site of Namaza,with achance to observe the ring-tailed lemur at the same time. In the afternoon, walk until the Cascade des Nymphes.
Possibility to spot birds including the endemic Benson’s Rockthrush. Join the parking after the visit, and drive back to your hotel.
Day 10 : Ranohira - Toliara

After breakfast, drive on southward to Toliara, passing through different villages of the sapphire miners. The landscape changes into savannah and bushes. Stop at Zombitse national park to discover some endemic birds and baobab trees. Then continue your road trip. Well painted tombs of the southern tribes can be discovered along the way. Arrive in Toliara, and get settled into your room. Nocturnal visit of the arboretum. Accommodation at Arboretum d’Antsokay includes breakfast.
Day 11 : Toliara - Ifaty

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the arboretum Antsokay and then drive to Ifaty.
You can enjoy yourself by spotting birds on the way.
Accommodation on half Board Basis at your hotel for 3 nights.

Day 12 : Ifaty

Early morning drive to the Reniala spiny forest for a birdwatching. Possibility to spot the long-tailed ground roller, the subdertmesite, the green capped coua, the subdsert warbler, the thamnornis warbler, the common newtonia, the archboldnewtonia, the striped throated Jery, the Sickle billed vanga, the chabertsvanga…… Back to the hotel after the visit. The rest of the day is at your own leisure.
Day 13 : Ifaty

Day at leisure
Day 14 : Ifaty - Toliara - Antananarivo

Breakfast at the hotel. Then transfer to the airport. Fly to Antananarivo.
Meet at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Accommodation includes breakfast.
