Package Overview

Rajasthan is a safe haven for a wide and colorful range of wildlife. The landscape of Rajasthan broadly varies from the infertile arid wilderness, dense scrub-thorn woods, rocks and gorges to swamps and lush, very thick grassy woodlands. And each of these huge parts is a beautiful home for a big diversity of amazing endangered beasts and bird life. Some of them rare while some seriously scarce.
The state houses tigers, black bucks, chinkara, the sporadic desert fox, the greatly threatened caracal, the great Indian bustard, gavial, monitor lizard, wild boars, and porcupine. Exotic traveling birds like the common crane, ducks, coots, pelicans and the rare Siberian cranes, imperial sand grouse, falcons, buzzards herd to this land throughout the bitter chilly winter months. Large characteristic zones strongly demonstrating each of the ecologies have been reserved as vast singular wildlife extents. Rajasthan proudly lays claim to two National Parks, over a dozen Sanctuaries and two Closed Areas. Most of these wide expanses are open to tourists and guests ceaselessly around the year but remain shut temporarily through the rainy season.

Ranthambhore National Park
District : Sawai Madhopur
Location : Ranthambhore is at the junction of the Aravallis and the Vindhyas in the SE quarter of Rajasthan.
Distances: 15 km NE of Sawai Madhopur, 201 km SE of Jaipur, 457 km SW of Delhi.
When to visit
The park is closed from July to September during the monsoons, and opens from October to June. November to February is the best time. March, April and May are oppressively hot with the desert ‘loo’ – hot and dry winds that blow during the day – baking everything in its wake. On the up side, they dry summer months allow for some fantastic animal sightings through the bare vegetation.
Activities
Tiger safaris. Don’t miss the Ranthambhore fort and wake up early to witness the forest at sunrise. You could also see Ganesh Temple, Jogi Mahal and Ranthambhore School of Art.
About Ranthambhore National Park
This park lies in the shadow of the Aravalli and Vindhya mountain ranges and covers a core area of 275 sq km (106 sq miles). Its razor-sharp ridges, deep boulder-filled gorges, lakes and jungles are the habitat of carnivores such as the caracal, panther, jackal and hyena, numerous species of deer, and a rich variety of resident and migratory birds. The most famous resident, however, is the endangered tiger, and it’s a unique experience to catch glimpses of this majestic animal. Like other parks in the region, this was originally the hunting ground of Jaipur’s maha-rajas and it only became a Project Tiger Reserve in 1973.
Accommodation
There are a plethora of hotels to choose from to fit every budget, most of them scattered on Ranthambhore Road, the long stretch that leads up to the park. Rates vary on and off-season and it is best to book in advance. Many of the hotels include meals in the hotel package.
By Air : If you fly to Jaipur, you can hire a car and drive a couple of hours to Ranthambhore, but a direct train from Delhi or Mumbai is advisable. It’s a lot cheaper and also less complicated and a much more interesting journey.
By Rail :Nearest railhead, Sawai Madhopur (15km/1.5 hr) has good connections from the Delhi-Mumbai line. Most resorts will arrange pick-up/drop from the railway station. Or hire a taxi or an auto to your hotel.
By Road : The drive from Jaipur via Tonk and Sawai Madhopur to Ranthambhore is 10 km longer than an alternative route via Kanota, Dausa and Lalsot, which is a bad road. Since private vehicles aren’t allowed in the park it might be better to go by train instead to Sawai Madhopur.

Sariska National Park
District : Alwar
Location: In the Aravalli Hills, 35 km from Alwar in north-east Rajasthan.
Distances: 108 km NE of Jaipur, 236 km SW of Delhi.
When to Visit
The park is open throughout the year for pilgrims to Pandupol. But in the rains, it’s closed for wildlife visits. The most comfortable time to go is November to March, though the best wildlife viewing is during the warmer months.
Activities
Tiger safaris. Don’t miss the Ranthambhore fort and wake up early to witness the forest at sunrise. You could also see Ganesh Temple, Jogi Mahal and Ranthambhore School of Art.
About Sariska National Park
Designated a Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger in 1979, Sariska National Park, formerly the private hunting ground of the princely state of Alwar, sprawls over 800 sq km (309 sq miles), with core area of 480 sq km (185 sq miles). The Aravalli Range branches out at Sariska, forming low plateau and valleys that harbor a wide spectrum of wildlife.
The tiger population at Sariska is now believed to be between 20 and 30. However, spotting one is a rarity. It was reported by the media that not a single tiger survived in the reserve. Nevertheless, forest guides keep track of where a tiger was last seen and can sometimes lead visitors to spot this elusive predator.

Keoledeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary
District : Bharatpur
Location : In NE Rajasthan, near Uttar Pradesh border, within the golden triangle of Agra-Delhi-Jaipur
Distances : 38 km SW of Mathura, 64 km W of Agra, 185 km NE of Jaipur, 196 km SE of Delhi.
When to visit

The park is open all year. August to October are the peak months for breeding and October to late February for wintering migrants. However, whatever time of the year you go, there will always be interesting birds to see.
Activities
The best way to see diverse species of birds and animals is to make trips at different times of the day. Wake up with the birds in the early mornings, see water birds in daylights and catch night birds such as owls after sunset. Bird watching may mean long waits, so factor it in, and meanwhile, turn the pages of a good birdwatchers’ guide such as Salim Ali’s Birds of Bharatpur – a Checklist.
About Keoladeo Ghana National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site regarded as one of the world’s most important bird sanctuaries, Keoladeo Ghana derives its name from Shiva temple (Keoladeo) within a dense forest (Ghana). This once-arid scrubland was first developed by Bharatpur’s rulers in the mid-18th century by diverting the waters of a nearby irrigation canals to create a private duck reserve. Extravagant shooting for British viceroys and other royal guests were held here, and horrifying numbers of birds were shot in a single day. Today, the park spreads over 29 sq km (11 sq miles) of wetlands, and attracts a wide variety of migrant and water birds that fly in each winter from places as distant as Siberia. Keoladeo’s dry area has mixed deciduous and scrub vegetation and is home to many animals, including the famed nilgai.
Accommodation
Most places to stay are along Dr Salim Ali Road, which runs from Bharatpur Town to the entrance of the park.
By Air
Nearest airport is Agra (64 km/1.5 hrs).
By Rail
Nearest railhead is Bharatpur Junction (4.5 km/20 min). A very convenient option if you are visiting from Delhi. The Frontier Mail and the Kota Janshatabdi are both good options from Delhi, especially in the monsoon when the Delhi-Agra Expressway can be in a bad shape. There are also rails links with Sawai Madhopur. Hotels will arrange to pick you up from the station; there are cycle-rickshaws at the station too. But beware of the local scooter rickshaws, which have zero suspension and are powered by noisy and polluting engines meant to be used for generators.
By Road
Bharatpur is 186 km from Delhi on the Agra Highway via Mathura. It makes a natural extension to a trip to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri; there is also a good link road from Jaipur. Tour buses operate from these places to the park.

In its eastern part are ranges that loom over 3,478 ft, as well as the source of the River Banas. The Marwar plains are to the north-west of the sanctuary. The rainwater on the western slopes flows as small rivers such as Sukdi, Mithdi, Sumer and Kot, all of which are the tributaries of River Luni that ultimately merges into the Arabian Sea. The sanctuary is known to be home to chausinghas (four-horned antelopes), leopards, panthers and sloth bears .
