Introduction -
If yoga is the ancient science that propagates an art of balanced living where an individual's physical, mental and spiritual come into perfect harmony; meditation is that extension of yoga that leads to oneness with one's mind. It is one of the prime five principles under yoga that, with constant practice, brings you to closer to your thoughts and your inner-self. Meditation focuses upon improving self-will, tranquility within you and helps you achieve clarity of mind like never before.
The history of meditation comes from a vast background having its roots in almost 5000-year old traditions. Started as a mere exercise, it eventually evolved as an art of life quite beautifully over centuries. Today, meditation is a known and popular art that draws thousands of learners every year due to its wide-array benefits. One of the major influences was Lord Buddha who is known as one of the most popular meditation icons of all times across eastern as well as western countries since 500 B.C.
More than a luxury, meditation is more of a necessity for human body in today's hectic times. When practiced regularly, meditation can cure as well as prevent lifestyle disorders including stress, hypertension, heart related diseases, high cholesterol levels, diabetes and arthritis among others. In addition, it also proves to be beneficial in developing better concentration power, memory and learning abilities. Another crucial benefit meditation boasts of is significantly reducing depression and anxiety levels, which is often the root cause of most of the lifestyle concerns.
Meditation offers a unique kind of rest to your body that is more rejuvenating than the deepest sleep one ever has had. Basically, you focus upon self-awareness, leading to a deep connect with your inner source of energy. Contrary to the popular notions, meditation isn't about focusing on a particular thought. It is about acquiring a state where only consciousness remains.
Be a part of this revolution and lead a peaceful, stress free and healthy life.
IYoga in India
Developed over 5000 years ago in a bid to develop a philosophy to help people achieve a balanced state of body, mind as well as spirit, yoga in India gained popularity all over the world with yoga practices leading one’s body to its fullest potential.
The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yog’ which in turn, means ‘to join’ or ‘to unite’. Hence yoga is a union with God to live a contended, peaceful and balanced life. Passed down several generations by yogis, rishis and seers, it acts as a way to offer liberation and expansion of human consciousness.
Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual discipline that involves a combination of processes to attain a holistic sense of well-being. The central aim remains to achieve a heightened sense of peace and wholesome happiness about oneself and things around.
Yoga Sutra, penned down by Patanjali in second Century, is considered the ultimate standard of reference for Classical Yoga. According to him, there are eight chief aspects to Classical Yoga which are:
Yama- meaning social restraints or ethical values
Niyama- personal observance of purity, tolerance and study
Asanas- physical exercise
Pranayama- breath control
Pratyahara- sense withdrawal for meditation
Dharana- regulates concentration
Samadhi- Transconsciousness/Ecstacy
