Situated in Cathedral Loop in Philippines, Baguio Cathedral is also known as Lady of the Atonement Cathedral. It is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The exteriors of the cathedral look distinct in pink color. There are two spires in the cathedral. It also has beautiful stained glass windows, which are a major attraction for tourists.
Construction
The construction work of cathedral started in the year 1920. The work completed in 1936.
Current Priest
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel C. Panayo is the current priest of the cathedral.
Features
Apart from its pink façade and rose windows, there are many other striking features of the cathedral.
· The façade has twin square belfries having pyramidal roofs.
· There is also a large courtyard in the cathedral that has a viewing deck. From the deck, views of Session Road and the downtown commercial district of Baguio can be enjoyed.
· Cathedral can also be reached from Session Road. The pedestrians can tread the hundred step stone staircase that culminates at a Calvary. Visitors can also walk through the adjacent campus of Saint Louis University.
Important Event in History
During Second World War, cathedral was used as an evacuation centre under the Japanese Occupation.
