The Gariep Dam Nature Reserve of Free State, South Africa, covers a dam of 36,478 hectares and a game sanctuary of 11,237 hectares on its north shore. The Gariep Dam Nature Reserve is built on the Orange River and feeds some 200,000 hectares of agricultural lands. The Dam provides water to the dry Karoo region and generates 600,000 kilowatts of power. It is a popular spot for the tourists and travelers travelling between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
