Perched on the archipelagos of the Mascarenes, 160 km east of Reunion Island and 920 km east of Madagascar, the Republic of Mauritius comprises of the main island which is Mauritius and Rodrigues, Saint Brandon and Agaléga. This country with its four coloured flags made of red, blue, yellow and green simply symbolizes the jewel of the Indian Ocean. Born out of a volcano, Mauritius unfolds itself on an extent of 1,865 sqm (65 km in length by 48 km in with). Almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs, its coastline spreads itself on almost 330 km. The topography is made of a vast central plateau culminating at an altitude of 600m whereupon three mountain ranges proudly stand out with the peaks Piton de la Rivière Noire (828m), Pieter Both (823m) and Le Pouce (812m).
