The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is conducted at the Yas Marina Circuit. Situated on the Yas Island, the place was designed by Hermann Tilke. The circuit is the second Formula 1 tract in the United Arab Emirates. The first is in Bahrain.
To open the circuit officially, a two-day GP2 Asia Series test was conducted. The event was held a week prior to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, 2009. The opening event for the Australian V8 Supercars series, the Yas V8 400 was also hosted at the circuit in February 2010.
The circuit was designed to have twenty-one corners twist through Yas Island of the Abu Dhabi coast. The circuit winds its way through several sand dunes having tight and long straight corners. The development of the marina-based circuit also includes a water park, theme part, residential areas, beaches and hotels.
The Yas Marina Circuit is spread over 161.9 hectares and seats around 41,093 people. It is divided in five grandstand areas mentioned below:
Furthermore, the circuit houses a pit building and behind it, a team building, Dragster Track, VIP Tower, Ferrari World Theme Park and a Media Center.
