Get introduced to the ancient side of Vietnam with a visit to Po Nagar Cham Towers. This ancient temple complex was built from the 7th to the 12th century – a time when Nha Trang was called Kauthara. The towers were built by Cham people of Indian origin to venerate Goddess of the Country – Yan Po Nagar. Originally, there were seven or eight towers but only four of them remain today. The most magnificent of them is the north tower, which is approximately 28-meter high and was built around 817 AD.
It has a pyramidal roof and houses a linga and a statue dedicated to Po Nagar. The goddess is said to have introduced new agricultural techniques and weaving methods to the people living there. The central tower is for worshipping Goddess Cri Cambhu who blessed the devotees with fertility. To the north-west is a tower built in honor of Sanhaka – Po Nagar’s foster father and lastly, the south tower is dedicated to Ganeca, the daughter of Po Nagar. Devotees still come to worship here. The place is also flocked by tourists as well as history lovers during the day.
